The Sims 4 won't launch on Steam Deck. NO MODS/CCs

5f9092eef2bd0dcf​  Sorry for the late reply; I've been away from the forums for a few days.  The point about deleting Options.ini was that if a change in settings was the issue, deleting the file would revert the settings and therefore hopefully fix it.  So did deleting the file help temporarily, in that you could play at least once afterwards?

Other than that, I'm out of ideas too.  I know nothing about Linux or Steam Decks in general, as I mentioned earlier, so I can't really help beyond what I've already written.

puzzlezaddict​ unfortunately, i have deleted options.ini, but it happened again. it launched the first time after i reinstalled, but after that, it won't launch again. 

i checked Config.log, too and there is no other GPU. i'm getting hopeless now. thanks anyway for taking the time to help me. 

5f9092eef2bd0dcf​  This message by itself doesn't mean anything important, only that your GPU's device ID isn't in the database.  This also happens with very new GPUs, and some uncommon ones, and occasionally a random common one that somehow gets overlooked.  Normally the message can be ignored, and it always disappears, at least until Options.ini is deleted.  That file also stores the flag that tells the game you've seen the message.

It's also where a file called Config.log is, and it's worth opening that file and confirming that the GPU for your Deck is in fact listed.  The graphics device, as the game sees it, is about 30 lines down.  If you see anything other than your GPU, let me know.

puzzlezaddict​ hi, i finally uninstalled and reinstalled it again, and apparently there's a pop-up message (attached). i guess, it's just like you said, due to graphic settings.. 

5f9092eef2bd0dcf​  EA doesn't officially support Linux at all, not for the EA App and not for any games.  That doesn't mean you can't play, obviously, only that no significant resources would be devoted to this issue or anything else on the platform.  And I do know the game runs on the Steam Deck overall because, aside from it working for you, I've had quite a few people complain about issues that only happen when the game is running overall, like lost saves and graphical anomalies.

So the question is what's going on with your unit that's different.  It's not an account issue since you can play on your PC, and it's not strictly a hardware issue since you can play once after reinstalling the game.  That's why I asked whether you changed any graphics options.  On a PC, I'd also ask about an antivirus, so please check whatever security settings you can find and make sure nothing is blocking the game or the EA App.  And if you're using some kind of cloud saving feature, please disable it.  Steam has one built in, but the Deck may have its own as well.

i'm having the same issue. but on Steam Deck. the issue occurred after the update last week. Tried everything, but nothing works. i thought the most recent update would fix it, but noooo, still having the same problem. i did open TS4 on my PC (Steam), and it launched with no problem at all. But ever since i got a Steam Deck, i love playing games on my Deck. i hope EA will fix it soon.

anyhoo, i tried open the Sims 4 on my PC (Steam) and it launched with no problem at all. but ever since i got a Steam Deck, i love playing games on my Deck. i've been playing TS4 for more than 600 hours on the Deck and it ran smoothly (with fullscreen mode). the problem occurred since last week's update.  maybe EA should fix the problem for other platforms, like Steam Deck? 

5f9092eef2bd0dcf​  Sorry, I was looking at two threads at once and got my wires crossed.  Options.ini has a fullscreen setting, which you can set to 0 (zero), or you can add -w to the launch options box to force the game to open in windowed mode.  Since we're on the subject though, try -dx9 to force DirectX 9 mode since DX11 isn't working.

i did try launching the game in windowed mode, but didn't work. finally, i tried to add -dx11 (like you told me earlier) in the launch options, but it didn't work either. i sent you a photo, so you can correct me if i'm wrong

5f9092eef2bd0dcf​  Did you change any graphics settings when you first played?  I'm wondering whether one of those is the issue.  If you can find Options.ini, wherever your other user files are stored, you can delete it to revert the game to default settings.

You could also simply try launching the game in windowed mode.  For a Steam install, open Steam, select Sims 4 > Properties > General, and add -dx11 under Launch Options.
