VCRUNTIME140.dll problems

hello. I recently came across an error when trying to load up the sims: EALauncher.exe - Bad Image. C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop\VCRUNTIME140.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try Installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc000012f. it then proceeds with saying it again but instead with VCRUNTIME140_1.dll. it does this 4 times, 2 with the 140.dll and twice with the 140_1.dll.

I found some forums that seem to be talking about the same thing on here, so I decided to ask you guys, but they seem to refer to Windows vcruntime and not EA? so I was wondering if anyone found a forum like mine or if there is something else I should do? I tried checking for viruses but it doesn't solve the problem, and I tried deleting EA with the control panel but it doesn't delete, unfortunately.

  • @Tacoshell101  The Visual C++ Redistributables are created and released by Microsoft, and most if not all games and related apps use one or more of them.  Standard practice is to include the required runtime(s) or an installer with any app that requires it.

Anyway, please uninstall your current versions of the 2015 and newer runtimes, if you have them, and install fresh copies.  Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click on any version from 2015 or later, and select Uninstall.  Don't touch the older versions.  You can download the newest runtimes directly from Microsoft:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

You'll need both the x86 and x64 versions of the 2015-2022 runtimes, but you can skip the ARM version, which is for a different class of device.  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to run the EA App.  I would also recommend uninstalling the App and not reinstalling it until you've reinstalled the VC++ runtimes.

I tried these steps. Unfortunately I cannot uninstall the app itself. It says "Close the EA app to continue", but it's closed.

I tried to uninstall MS Visual C++ , and reinstall it, but I still see the error ☹️

@janelee  Make sure the EABackgroundProcess is NOT running in the Task Manager.  You'd see it under background processes.

If that doesn't help, please post the error you see when you try to play Sims 4 (or launch the EA App, if that's the problem).  Many of these errors are similar but not identical, with likewise similar but not identical causes.

    OMG!
I was having this same issue with Red Dead 2, and a whole bunch of other games simply failed to launch!
I followed your instructions, reinstalling those redistributables, and BAM! Everything's working fine again!
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

I can now play games with my bestie again, games I missed soooo much! You cured my frustration and anger!

I know this is an older post but I need help! I have followed these steps exactly and have not had success. EA will not let to un-install through control panel or any other way as I keep getting the same error codes. Un-installed both 2015 c++ redistributables and reinstalled through the link provided. I even scanned the app for any issues. It keeps saying incompatible but my system is up to date. I was playing yesterday no problem. I feel like I have tried everything and am at a loss.

    Any help would be appreciated
