Walls jump diagonally outside of lot when trying to build

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.93.129.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except Batuu and most kits.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Go in to build mode on any lot and try to build walls, rooms or fences.
What happens when the bug occurs? The cursor keeps bouncing outside of the lot and building walls diagonally through the lot. It is really hard to get the wall to be built where I want it to.
What do you expect to see? A wall/fence/room built where I am dragging it.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

So this issue has been ongoing for quite some time already, I think at least over a month. It occurs on every lot and in every world, so it is not lot-specific. It makes building extremely tedious and frustrating! The video file where you can see the bug is too large to add here, so I uploaded it to Youtube, here's the link: https://youtu.be/E0C5ZSA2uEE

As you can see, when I try to build walls/rooms/fences, they keep bouncing diagonally off the lot, even if the mouse is in the right spot. It happens on every lot in every world, so it is not bound to a specific place. It makes building frustrating and almost impossible.

That is so weird.  Watched your vid and I can tell you that doesn't happen or ever has happened for me.  I have had my camera jump to odd places in both live and build when I went to click on a spot but not when drawing walls like you show in the vid.  So, the only things I can think of for you to try is to try a game repair and to take a look at your mouse sensitivity settings in your computer settings and maybe adjust them if it continues to happen after repairing.  There are no mouse settings for the game itself in Gameplay Options.  But the thing is, you probably don't need to adjust anything if you are not having mouse issues like this in other games and apps you use and if it only happens in TS4.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi!

It is really odd! And that it always jumps diagonally! I actually tried with a different mouse as well to make sure it wasnt a mouse-issue, but the same problem persisted. I've also tried to see if the mouse sensitivity is off in other games, but nope, it's only TS4.

I'm going to try to repair the game and see if it helps!๐Ÿ‘

@Bnibuilds I'm moving this to the tech forum for further troubleshooting.

Will move back if it turns out to be a bug :D

So, I tried repairing the game, but the issue remains. I did some more testing and it happens on every lot in every world.

Like I said earlier, this is just so weird.  And since it happens in all worlds, it's got to be something unique to your game or computer.

I did think of one other thing.  I use a wireless mouse and keyboard which have batteries.  My game will go for months with no problem, and then, all of a sudden, my mouse will become really erratic in TS4.  Jumps all over the place.  Can't click on things, etc.  It only happens in TS4 too.  It does not happen in any other game I play or app I use.  Even though the little light on my mouse shows green meaning the batteries are still good, if I change the batteries, then everything goes back to normal until the next time they get low.  The same thing happens with my keyboard except when those batteries get low, it just stops altogether.

So, if you are using a wireless mouse, then try changing the batteries.  Put in some new ones.  Or, if you have a wired mouse, try that one.  That will tell you if it is the game or a hardware issue like low batteries.  I know you said you tried another mouse, but if that one is wireless too, it could have low batteries too if it's been sitting around for a long time or if you moved the batteries between the two mice it could have just transferred the problem to the other mouse.  And when you change the batteries, take a look to see if the battery contact points are clean.  Clean them if the metal contacts are not shiny or look like something is on them.

    Hope this helps.

I use a wired mouse and the second one was wired as well๐Ÿ˜… So it can't be a battery issue. I also checked a few times whether it couls be like a hair or something on the mouse sensor, but it's not. And the issue is also only when building walls, never for example during furnishing, putting on wallpaper or during gameplay, literally only during building walls or fences.

This issue is still ongoing, but how bad it is seems to vary. This far the Spice District lots by the harbour seems to be the worst. Havr to build max 2 wall pieces at a time or it throws the walls off diagonally in all random directions. It really makes building almost impossible. Anything else I could try as a fix?

@Bnibuilds Just spitballing here, but does changing from full screen to windowed full screen or windowed change anything? And changing the screen resolution?
  • @Bnibuilds This drove me crazy too and I found what's causing it now. If you have dual displays set up - Go To Display Settings on your computer - Turn off the Ease Cursor Movement Between Displays.
