If they're working on things people really want, don't save it for a surprise release, let people know what's going on so they don't feel so ignored

This! I don't understand why they can't just state they hear the concerns, the issues, the wants/desires and just flat out say we're working on it or looking into, or no - it just can' be done or we're not doing whatever it is, just so people know that they weren't talking to the wall. They don't have to give a timeline, just an acknowledgement that they're trying to implement whatever it is or they won't be.

I think that is seriously what riles people up so much.

And if they looked into and they can't fix it or implement, then explain WHY, what was the issue, explain it in layman's terms so that people understand.
