Sims 5 Rene: Pure Sandbox or Reactive and Dynamic Environment?

  • I want reactive gameplay with elements I need to adapt to or overcome when I set my mind to it, surprises and discoveries, things that might influence my decisions, but I want control in CaS (and cheats) so that I can set things up as I want when I really need it.
  • I strongly disagree with lumping the concept of "no pushback" and "full control" together. Non-sandbox players seem to imagine that playstyle as bereft of any challenge. In sandbox playstyle the game still needs to react and present obstacles, albeit within clearly defined parameters. Only I, as the player, can know which company currently hires, how difficult it is to get a job in the first place, how far my sims can advance and who their co-worker are (a part time retail salesperson may work for the same employer as a sim in the salaryperson career, just in different departments). Ideally there'd be mechanisms that let me tell the game all of this. If it cannot do that, then it's better to have as much freedom as possible and leave adding obstacles to the player.

tldr: Challenge for the sims, maximum freedom for the player
  • I disagree with neither options. Why can't I have both?
Many simulation games have multiple settings, and it still annoys me that in 2023, Sims 4 has such limited settings. I would like to see more customization, more details, more settings to tweak the gameplay I wish to play.
I might play my game and want to marry someone in a day or tomorrow I might want more Harder and difficult gameplay with a more reactive and dynamic environment. I want to play the game how I want to play, and I wish for my fellow simmers to have the option to play their game how they want as well.

I'm getting concerned that Sims is moving away from "game" and towards "creative tool for creators." Sims has always allowed flexibility and freedom, but I don't want the game to be a movie-making tool where I have to invent storylines in my head. I want the game to show consequences and have some challenge.

Forget NPCs, I want an MMORPG. Why would I want to hang out with imaginary friends?
I play Sims... Yeah... But, I want real people to play with me. I'm not interested in NPCs.

Palia is probably exactly the game you are looking for.

(Personally I would not play an MMO period, not only because I loathe multiplayer, but because 99.99% of all MMO will be taken off line due to not making enough profit within 24 months and then you lose all your money you spent on micro transactions AND you will never ever be able to play the game again since the servers do not exist anymore)
