The Sims 2 Won't Launch since forced to EA App

I tried my hardest to make sure there wasn't a thread for my exact issue posted before, but I've been working on this problem for the entire day on TWO different computers.

So I discovered that The Sims 2 UC finally showed up on the EA App, so I tried installing it to play. The first computer actually got it to launch, but just didn't do anything. After everything I've done now I've come to realize that initial issue was likely setting it to windowed mode. I went through all the steps you have to do to get Sims 2 to run nowadays thinking it would fix it, I then had the issue on Computer #1 that it's stuck on saying the product code isn't valid. I couldn't ever get that problem fixed because it booted fine the first few times until I was trying to figure being unable to see.

Now comes Computer #2. For context #1 is my ma's laptop and #2 is my own desktop. I figured I could figure out the issue by starting from zero on my own computer. well... Now the issue is on #2 is it won't open at all. Says I'm not connected to the wi-fi. No matter what I do it doesn't work. I've done window mode, I've done the graphics stuff, I've uninstalled and reinstalled both the game and the EA App. I legit can't figure it out. I've spent hours today browsing various forums to see if someone had a fix... but I resort to this now.

So yeah computer #1 is still stuck on claiming it's not registered and even though I try to give it code, it then claims it's not connected to the internet.

Computer #2 stuck unable to even reach where computer #1 got.

Help? Or am I just gonna have to accept the likelihood if you own the game legally you can't play it, because typically these issues don't happen when you're not required go through hoops of a launcher and etc. That's just guessing though as honestly, I own the games, I wouldn't know from experience if the issue still happens.

  • @LarkuTyme The Sims 2 has only recently been added to EA App, and the app sometimes has issues verifying older games. When I first tried to log in this morning, the app couldn't even connect until I restarted my laptop.

Can you check if the issue still persists? Ensure you have a good Internet connection and that no other processes that could interfere with The Sims 2, such as antivirus programs, are running.
  • Can do, I'll check it out. At least you helped confirm that I wasn't going nuts and from the things I read, that Sims 2 actually just popped back up from Origin on EA App. If the forum allows, to save from double posting (people use to really hate that) I'll just edit this post with my results. ^_^

Edited: Alright both computers still doing the thing. #1 the laptop is still unable to verify the product code and won't let me input it claiming I'm not connected to the internet. I've already checked the internet possibility because 99% of the things I do on computers require it so it's usually a given that it's working. Through the day I'll take stabs at it and see if either of them possibliy has a issue with the default virus defender stuff, but typically it'd let me know by now if that were the case on either computers. The desktop #2 still doing the unable to connect: "Your game failed to launch, unable to connect, check your connection" yadda yadda that one. Honestly it might be a thing where I just gotta wait it out til they fix the launcher more.

Thanks, that fixed the desktop which is computer #2. #1 was fixed with that... then I did the whole windows mode thing (thought had to do that to make it run) and so the screen size I couldn't figure out how to fix because I thought the graphics doohicky tool you have to use on Sims 2 these days to work with the newer cards would have the laptop (#1) set to the correct window size... Then after that it went back to the original issue of not recognizing the product code and the clearing the cache didn't fix it the second time.

EA/Sims, they are a enigma for weird issues I'll always give them that.

@LarkuTyme Just to clarify, the desktop can run the game now, but the laptop still can't? You mentioned that you used a graphics tool; was it Graphics Rules Maker?
  • @mate54 Yeah the desktop seems to be able to run it just fine now after doing the clear cache. The laptop I'll take a gander at again today, but the clear cache had it where it ran, but after me messing with trying to get the resolution right. Far as I know Graphics Rule maker is the only one that does fixing the config to take the newer graphics cards. I followed the instructions on the site about using the auto-detect and etc. I'll note that the laptop has more horsepower so to speak than my desktop as it's a gaming laptop and built after my self built desktop. So when it comes to memory, graphics card and cpu the laptop is superior to the desktop. Sometimes I'm actually a bit jealous of that laptop that was a gift to my mother, but eh... least it runs anything thrown at it except for older games. XD
