I finally got the pet option today! And splashed out on the fish tank, pun intended. I'm broke but so chuffed! :D

I briefly considered the hedgehog but I remember reading here that the critter didn't move and was a bit of a disappointment. Haha I was afraid of a similar scenario with the fish, especially when I moved it to its current spot: the fish remained mid-air in their previous location for a few seconds, but they soon appeared back into the tank. They swim in there and it truly looks very pretty!
For those of you who are lucky enough to get it in the future, don't miss the chance to tap on the option "feed the fish". It's... interesting ๐

Me too. I almost always get the "forgot your lunch" which requires you to pay or get a bad choice but I also occasionally get the hot tub (I already have 4) or the fortune teller. I want a pet! Or better yet 10 pets! The superheroes need a mascot!
If anyone remembers, or gets in the future, please post here what activities and location you were doing before you got each of the choices (especially interested in the pets one). I'm not sure but there may be some activity or locations that influence what you get. I do lots of parties, careers and hobbies but very little of anything else because I've finished all of the relationship stories. I want to know if that is preventing me from getting the pets or if it is completely random. about 85% of the time I get the one where I left my lunch at home and have to pay to avoid any immoral, inconsiderate, jerky choices that I would never make in real life.
Yep talking about pets in the relationship events triggers the pet option for me, not 100% but it only shows up after I talk about them. Iโve had the buy pet chance several times now but since I have hit my item limit I donโt feel the need to buy more decor. I have yet to get the hot tub and I think maybe, since I didnโt start the game until after the hot tub event, that maybe itโs a very low percentage I will? IDK, has anyone got the hot tub option who started playing well after the hot tub event? ๐ง
In other news for the first time got the doctors surprising choice, selected the โsuffer the consequencesโ option (forget the name) but it resulted in the most hilarious side effect yet... your sim falls asleep ๐ค so they yawn then power face plant the side walk in the most unflattering way, itโs the best ๐๐๐
So definitely look out for that one for some lols.
I haven't done many relationship events in over a month since I finished those stories. Which relationship stories have options to talk about pets?
I think I had the option to talk about pets with the "better late than never" relationship story, but it doesn't appear every time.
@BlueWizardRob @KodamaTreeSpirit Is right (as a ghibli fan Iโm fangirling all over your name btw), one of the triggers was the better late than never one & itโs towards the end, late level like level 8 or 9 that it occasionally pops up, itโs something basic like โask if they like petsโ or โask what their favourite pet isโ. The reason why I did that relationship so many times was because I was a total backwater moron with it, always started it on a retired sim and never quite made it to lvl10 before my retired sim automatically left for good (thus removing the chance to interact with them for those last couple of times) until I read you can do it on a elderly NPC. But never fear, for what ever reason the pet surprising choic popped up randomly after a long dj job event and a long ASOS fashion event so itโs not always the better late than never that triggers it.... but me doing those brain dead attempts to hit lvl10 better late than never with most of my crew for a few weeks did make it proc more often.

I was swanning around the shop, window shopping, and as soon as I closed it a surprising choice triggered. It was to save a struggling business and offered discounted simcash items...
( @KodamaTreeSpirit I love them so so much, ghibli films are my top films before anything else, if you ever get the chance the ghibli museum in japan is amazing, they have this hip high howlโs castle bronze statue that I want for my garden ๐)
@Here4Snacks I got that choice a few days ago and it was one of the few times I have spent simcash on the surprising choices. I wanted that bird bath - LOL

I have triggered it several times. Today I was just finishing an event in the better late than never story and started a family mentoring event when it popped up.
I have the same question but with regard to the pets surprise. I want a fish and a hedgehog but have never found that one.
Me too, @rmw8855, I really struggled with that one... I love rugs...but the birdbath won!
I wouldn't suggest the hedgehog...you NEVER see it, unless you tell your Sim to pet it, then it's super quick...I didn't have enough for the fish tank, but I'm saving up...only have 149 simcash now, so it'll be awhile...my luck, they'll stop offering it just when I can afford it & the hot tub is just a fantasy lol.
