TA Funds to buy items but still dependent on the production of supply points

What will be the point in buying TA funds when you are dependent on the production of supply points? It should at least give you the privilege to use the bought crystals, Tiberium or any other items...

Once you've been on the world for a time the supply points are plentiful. You need to be patient.
