New server announcements should also be posted on login page Recent News to better promote signups.

I agree - but the reality is that they're not. Until February this year, the latest news had been November so the 'Recent news' isn't updated at all regularly. My view is that if you're going to have a 'Recent News' or 'Twitter feed' or 'Facebook page' then they should be updated regularly or removed.
