What have you done with cobblestone roads

I don’t know if this answers your question. They only blend like road tiles. However they don’t have the unique quality that road tiles have:
Cobblestone will always blend in and make a road:
And also they won’t form bridges like road tiles do:
The only objects you can place on them (that I know so far) are the town square:
(which can be placed in any axis actually, doesn’t have to be centered):
Or track pieces:
