Yes, you are correct, both in a mathematical and literal sense. You can actually expect a slight profit in actual cost of donuts of the items received versus what you purchased based on the actual Homer Buddha odds. But practically no one wants that many of a single premium item.
I cannot disagree! Actually I am of the very same opinion!
I just wanted to present a different view on the Homer Buddha. Especially if you are new to the game, have never bought any of the Homer Buddha items and are interested in some of these, some limited purchases of the Buddha might be interesting and fun for you.
I certainly don't want to advertise the Buddha too much... ;)

I do avoid buying SVT, Moleman, and Frink's Lab, because of the potential to win them for free or less than their purchase price. I live to keep the weekly mystery boxes interesting and something to look forward to. I still do not have SVT!
I like this approach! There is definitely some reason in it and I understand your point of view and appreciate it!
I just have another one. The first premium thing I bought was SVT. For three reasons:
1. It was the cheapest one available, and I wanted to have a first "yeah I bought something" moment... :D
2. The premium earnings of it make a difference especially in the beginning of the game
3. Sooner or later you are supposed to get your donuts back (when you get SVT from the mystery box at a 2% chance), which ends in a donut-cost-neutral investment. But you got the premium earnings of SVT straight from the beginning!
Like I said I can understand your point of view here, to let yourself be in the hope to get SVT and stuff one day. Well, I will certainly be as nearly happy as you, once I get the 30 Donuts for him, instead for the character itself. ;)
