The problem with dirt roads is Stampy, Nessie and the street cleaner do not leave them. Something in their code keeps these characters there all the time. I did not like it so dirt roads were replaced with dirt paths bordered by the wild west fence.
I've tricked them by hiding single squares of the dirt road behind buildings. Example, the Preacher that drives the golf cart, pretty much stays in a single square I've hidden behind the glass church. If he leaves, i send him to the church, then put him back in the cart.
