Success in this event has little to do with your bonus unless, like you've chosen to do, you buy pickaxes. Success depends on collecting 4 times a day (now the standard grinding benchmark for events), utilizing the maximum amount of available characters at the forge, using the chart provided in the forum for the most accurate digging pattern, and using your crafting currency efficiently in order to best increase your rewards at the dig site. You can accomplish this as a freemium player and complete act 1 in time. I'm already done with the act and the only purchase I made was Nosferatu. I didn't buy a single pickaxe.
