They'd have to say oops we miscalculated the whole thing and give it as part of a 1-2 part task each task lasting say 5 minutes. Both involving professor fink and homer.

People always freaked out in the past whenever we had community prizes. Always saying things like...

"We will never get them"
"The amount is too high"
"EA did this on purpose so they can sell them later for donuts"
And so forth..

In the end, we always got them all. I have no doubt the same will happen again.

Many people seem to be forgetting one thing: When we were worried about not getting community prizes in previous events, we were concerned only about the last prize; we reached all the other goals. In this case, we won't be able to reach even the first goal.

If EA divides the goals by 10 and the cost of balls by 100, we just might make it...

On a generally jollier forum I saw that they believe the counter is an illusion, not a real life or accurate counter, just make-believe numbers generated by averages on some server in a land far, far away.
