The way I see it, EA has taken a template approach to events. Each event is split into 3 phases. In each phase, we tap things on footpaths. We upgrade. We craft.
It's the same program logic for Bob clones, corn stalks, felons, robbers, robbers with rainbow wigs, elves, aliens and bunnies.
Even upgrading and crafting is just copied from the previous few events. It feels like watching the original Power Rangers series and realising that each episode was essentially the same as the next.
The idea worked well at the start, but now it's gone stale. Events just don't have the flare and excitement around them anymore. The way to get prizes is pretty much the same.
I miss the times when each event worked differently.
* In Halloween 2013, you can also vacuum ghosts. People got possessed and it was a unique animation for each person
* For Clash of Clones, I was amused when lots of nerds attacked the Flanders house. I gleefully let them reduce it to rubble.
* The gift bags during Christmas 2013 were a nice touch - it truly felt like the gift of giving and it was in line with holiday's theme
* For Valentines 2013, I liked getting V-Day cards on top of my characters. I snickered when Martin rarely got hearts.
tl;dr
It was better when each event had a different method of play.
