Couldn't agree more with the headline. The only reason I visit this forum in the first place is to see who's been peeking in the raw files... F you, EA.
I like reading the RAW files threads too. But after reading the TOS, I'm thinking that they may be breaking the rules.
- Attempt to interfere with, hack into or decipher any transmissions to or from the servers for an EA Service.
Keyword is "servers". No one is deciphering any transmissions on the server. They're deciphering the raw data files already on their phone's hard drive. They don't want people spying on private messages going back and forth basically.
It's really a question for EA to answer. The rule is somewhat ambiguous.
Actually it's 100% NOT a question for EA to answer. If they wanted to file a suit against someone for deciphering their data files, they don't get to be both the plaintiff and the judge/jury. The only individual equally unqualified to answer would be the defendant. I'm not aware of the laws governing this type of activity, but regardless, EA's written rules are fairly straightforward. Reading the raw data files don't violate the portion of the guidelines that you posted.- I'm slacking on visiting friends at the moment but only because my workload has increased tenfold.
I visit every other day. I'd do every day if I could. JoshSherer wrote:

I'm not trying to start an argument with you. But...... "What exactly do you mean by that rule?"; is actually a question you could ask EA. In fact, if you find it ambiguous, and you were using their services; it would be important to ask what they mean. Not just take the random postings at a forum as fact.- Hey Josh just a thought...
I've never seen you post anything positive. You always talk smack. This forum is here to help people with the game. If you're going to post that the games dead, then i'm sorry to hear that from you. I enjoy building my town differently every once in a while. And by reading the comments, a majority of the other people do as well. We get rewarded with updates every once in a while. If you would rather play something as mindless as Temple Run, then cool, go ahead. I'm not going to lose sleep over you not being here tomorrow. Nor will any other respectable member of this forum. - Like some of the others, I am just biding my time and building up cash for the next update. Got a $100 iTunes card burning a hole in my hands. I do agree that there isn't much impetus to visit your friends other than keeping all five stars. I can put all of characters on 24 hour jobs and take in over $100,000 so there is little reason to visit other Springfield's for a pittance.
On a side point, the Ralphie Wiggum character really creeps me out. I just have him celebrate his birthday and not have to deal with him. At least he isn't as boring as Kearney. They could lose that character and I wouldn't complain. - The rule isn't ambiguous, you're just misinterpreting it. In your quoted rule, transmission refers to data going back and forth between a device and their server. The raw data files are transmitted to your decive, and during the download are considered a transmission. Once the transmission is complete, it is done being transmitted, and simply becomes data files on your device. It no longer is defined as being in transmission. The hacking, interfering, etc, refers to a third party trying to interfere with the transmission of files to gain info or block service. It also includes the user with the legitimate connection using that connection to hack their own game or interfere with anothers. Anything that tricks the server into giving you donuts for example would call under this rule. You have to be connected to the server and data is being sent back and forth, a transmission. Also going into a neighbors town and using a hack to crash their town would be covered by this rule.
Interpreting data that is on your phone is fine, you have every right to check every file you download or there would be no antivirus software. sherryt07 wrote:

Putting aside for a moment that it isn't actually ambiguous at all, asking EA will obviously result in them telling you to not do anything because it's easier than having to draw specific lines. They will go with the "better to be safe than sorry" rule. The real person you should be asking is an attorney who does not represent EA. Then you'll get the unbiased answer you want. And while I may be a random person on the forum, and acknowledge that I have no background in this area of law, I am an attorney and I understand how these sorts of matters work.amauthe8 wrote:

It's true. You do have your brief moments of helpfulness but you do dish it out a bit too much in all fairness.VxMarmitex9 wrote:

Blame EA for not giving us an update in several weeks.
