I'm a freemium player, and I was happy to win what I did during the event. I can appreciate the frustration players who spent money on this event might feel, especially if they didn't win what they wanted. I think we can all agree that "getting what you pay for" is fair, and the chanced based event took that concept out of the equation unless you were willing to pay/buy enough donuts to spin the required # of times to be guaranteed those prizes.
It'd be like paying $5 to pump gas into your car for a random amount of time. If I pay the $5, I might randomly get to pump gas for 1 minute, but someone else might pay their $5 for a chance and only get to pump for 15 seconds. Sure, we could both just keep paying $5 for randomly generated amounts of time to pump gas until our tanks were full, and eventually, if we payed enough, we would be guaranteed to get a full tank. But it might cost me a total of $30 and someone else $60 to get the same amount of gas in our tanks. Who wins in that situation? The guys who own the pump (EA), because some are going to end up paying a lot more than others for the same stuff (except in the game, people are choosing to pay for those chances or not, and those that are are not satisfied, and rightfully so, with the fact that they aren't getting what they pay for). I think it's very understandable, but it is also the main reason I refused to spend any money on the event.
