What if he has a lot of friends?
Friends? Really?? What does anyone truly know about anyone else here???
Well, I assume if people are being genuine in the hundreds of threads that ask general questions of eachother, I'd say lots. Why, are you trying to imply that people are incapable of making friends here?
Well, I guess it's a matter of semantics. I think a friend should be someone you actually know. Internet acquaintances are a step below pen pals-- at least you know where a pen pal lives. You know nothing about people you meet on the internet. So, for me anyway, the word "friend" is a bit strong.
You are right. It is semantics. But by the dictionary definition of friend, you are wrong. Plus if you read below my Avatar, you know where I'm from.

I've gotten to know plenty of people, I've had great conversations with them, and I wake up one day, and realize that I've been neglecting life, because I'm having too much fun here. Let's pretend I don't care about anyones attention. Let's pretend that I just want to say goodbye for all the right reasons. How is me sending a public goodbye, any less genuine then a private goodbye?
Wait, you want to pretend you don't care about anyone's attention and then ask what's wrong with erecting a billboard to say your heartfelt goodbyes to 30 people?
Okay, let me rephrase. Let's say I care about the attention of those 30 people for the purpose of letting them know I'm gone, and that I enjoyed talking with them, and nothing else. If you're not one of those 30, and it doesn't concern you, what is the fallacy in saying it publicly, in a thread, that is not required for you to read?
shaygitz wrote:Bravewall wrote:
I mean really. Just because I put what I wanted to say all in one thread, instead of individual private messages, this somehow makes me insincere?
Yes.
Please explain.
shaygitz wrote:Bravewall wrote:
Is it because I don't care about saying goodbye to you individually, and because you read it anyway, you think somehow that I'm saying goodbye to you because I want your attention before I go? Well man, maybe you just need to realize that not everything is about you.
And it's not a text blast. It's a forum thread that says "goodbye" on the label. And if you don't care or expect a goodbye from me, well that is your problem for clicking on that link and reading that heartfelt goodbye, that you know wasn't meant for you to begin with. Did I take something from you, for posting something public for you to click on? No. Did I force you to read it? Did I mislead you into thinking my goodbye was something else? No, the title is goodbye, and thats exactly what its about when you click on the link. Are you the kind of guy that opens up spam emails, and get disappointed because it's spam?
Ah, let's remember where we are, my pretend friend. This isn't emcee's "goodbye" thread, this is Josh's parody. I read Josh's stuff because I'm pretty sure I'll be entertained. I saw emcee's thread title and thought, "Oh boy, here's another one". I didn't open it-- not that I'm above threadcrapping on occasion, just not this occasion.
So you didn't actually read Emmcee's goodbye, and yet you're certain that it would have been more genuine if it was a private message. Based on what? Josh's Parody? You're out of your element Donny.
shaygitz wrote:shaygitz wrote:Bravewall wrote:
This is what is really funny about Josh making this thread, thinking "Oh if Emmcee1 is going to draw attention towards himself, just by saying goodbye, than so can I."
What's really funny is you don't know what's funny about this thread. Josh isn't-- at least this time-- seeking attention. He's parodying what seems like the umpteenth thread where someone climbs onstage and announces to the few who care and the many who don't that he's got to step away from the forum for awhile, personal reasons you know, can't say if he'll be back but he'll miss his friends, the mods are great, etc etc. To the best of my knowledge, none of these goodbyes has lasted more than a week or two, and most returns are heralded like the return of Odysseus.Bravewall wrote:
Nah, man... It's pretty clear he's seeking attention. Through whatever parody you are talking about, and you think I don't get, it's attention seeking.
And hey maybe he's right. Maybe EmmCee will be back in a week. Maybe he will have figured out his problems and worked through them faster than he thought, and he'll come back like it was nothing, just like I'm sure plenty of others have.
Correction: every other.Bravewall wrote:
Personally if that happens I'll say "Hey man, glad you're back and you got your problems sorted out." I'm not going to be saying "Oh hey! Look who's back! Mister Goodbye! Didn't take you very long, did it! I knew you'd be back! I told everybody! I told them it was only a matter of time!" No I won't saying anything smarmy like that, because that would mean I'm the biggest, smarmiest, pettiest attention seeker out of everybody.
No, of course you wouldn't-- you're his "friend". But not everyone is, and emcee could save himself a bit of that treatment by making his goodbyes private. But then, any attention is good attention, right? It all feeds the need. Anyway, it's been fun. I'll keep an eye out for your "goodbye" thread :D
Oh, I wouldn't call us friends. We are more internet acquaintances. We've disagreed on one or two things, and we rap battled. But we harbour no ill will towards each other, and it's been fun talking to him. I respect his opinion. I'm doing my best to speak impartially, because I have made friends on the internet, in forums that I've hung around long enough in. I know there are other regulars here who are friends, and have said as much.
But who is it that EmmCee could save himself treatment from? Just a bunch of people he doesn't care about, talking at him and about him, while he's talking to other people, that he actually does care about. All I'm saying is there is a clear difference in the kind of attention EmmCee was seeking with his goodbye thread, and the kind Josh is seeking with this thread. And if you fail to see the difference because of your definition of friends, then I don't care. Clearly you're here for different reasons than other people.
