I somewhat agree with you, OP. I do think they still will be able to get new players, because going through the game from the beginning there is a lot of content avaliable to enjoy.
It's only once you hit the highest level and have bought and decorated all the land that you start to get bored with it and speculate about which unimportant character will be released with the next level...
Probably, a lot of long time players will drop the game once it get's a bit stale, but new players will still be coming in, allowing EA to re-release old content for events and maybe even bring back those sought-after episode tie ins, and that will keep the game interesting for new players while requiring minimal effort from EA.
