Forum Discussion
- I've been reading this thread for a couple of days now and some interesting points have been made. I haven't commented because I've had nothing to add to the discussion. However, I was mowing the yard earlier and had to shoot a five foot rattlesnake. I was greatful to have the gun because the last time I tried to kill one with a *, I got bit. On a lighter note, whacking snakes in real life is not at all like whacking snakes in Springfield :D
Edit- the censored bit is a garden implement, not a street walker lol capwhittaker wrote:

I am one of the estimated 90% who supported enhanced background checks, at least in principal. Gun control proponents seem to vilify the NRA, but the bottom line is our congress is already bought and sold by those with the deepest pockets. The US Congress no longer truly represents the citizenry. This failure is just one of a long string of failures by our federal government to do the right thing for our country, instead voting first for their own campaign contributions. The UK poll listed Term Limits, referencing the two term limit on American presidents. Until we have congressional term limits, career politicians will continue living in the pockets of their largest donors, and legislation will continue to address those donor's needs, not ours.- It always boils down to money. Ppl dont care about anything else well at least corporations, politicians millionaires. Etc . Greed is gonna be the downfall of modern society
- BGringoNew SpectatorThe Simpsons was always at its best when it pokes fun at society and politics in general. Take it for what it's worth and keep it moving.
- Be fair, the NRA are a bunch of lunies, and the main guy attacked video games for being the cause of gun crime- remember his stupid quote about a bad guy and a gun being stopped by a good guy with a gun. Naturally EA a a game company will attack him. Besides it was so obviously showing how stupid they are- look at the dialogue between wiggum and Herman. I'm only this far in the quest line

OP, To be honest I was a bit surprised.
Not subtle at all. I personally found it funny and agree with the sentiment. That said I am still aware about 50% of a very large nation would probably be very offended and as such the game could suffer a financial hit. Lol I'm shocked I haven't seen Fox News jump all over this already.
Again, what I found surprising was the ham-handedness of the "humor". In this, the game and the show are poles apart. Go watch "The Cartridge Family" from season 7 to see how the show handles the same subject; the NRA meeting scene there skillfully exposes the gun nuts and their agenda, in sharp contrast to the sledgehammer approach the game takes. I realize the game doesn't have the luxury of gradual exposition, but if you can't do it cleverly and deftly in a few lines, maybe it's better not to do it.- Been reading without replying.. Gonna wait and finish the quest then post...
Or I may just set everyone on 24-hour tasks and quit opening certain posts until Squidport provides some fresh subject matter..
Sigh... This is just a game, yes? After so much time spent tapping, it seems like so much more... shaygitz wrote:
This. Good satire isn't easy, and hamfisted soapboxing isn't worthy of the property.Keys1980 wrote:

It's a video game based on a satirical television cartoon... There are bigger things in life to worry about than a quickly passing screen making fun of a current topic. As a Scot I'm not offended as how they portray my heritage with Willie, cause its a CARTOON! And as a satire their comments have done their job; incited a reaction, just like they've been doing for 25 years

I totally agree!
Then if you want to open a debate on this emendament and not on the show, it is a different thing.
I don't think everyone in this forum is american (I am not), and for the majority of european like me that old emendament is just crazy. I don't mean it was crazy at the very first time, when USA needed that for a few reasons (first of all that was no army and no police, still USA was in war against great britain, so USA needed armed citizens), is crazy that you still have that now and the way you defende this "right". No metter how many people die you still think is a good thing. Is like if us (european I mean) still had some old useless and horrifying law of middle ages. - Just noticed this thread. But, yes, I agree, this quest line is a bit ridiculous. I can understand why there are some people wanting to ban guns but some of Wiggums lines were absurd. I could never hear him saying some of those things on the show. It's amazing how dumb anti-gun people can be. Guns don't kill people by themselves. If you're going to ban guns, might as well ban knives and every other weapon, too. This whole gun battle in the US is a complete joke and a waste of time, and now The Simpsons Tapped Out has chimed in. Well, we know where the writers of the game stand. They basically crammed it down our throats.
