Thank you for the trick (and for your clear instructions!) I ran your process through in my main town. I still need to enter my code each time, but the chaos of being stuck in the loop has ended.
For my other towns, it is a different problem which I fear you cannot help with, since the problem is that I have no active email account for those. Several were created using dummy email addresses, so I have no way to retrieve those verification codes. (I guess the real "dummy" turns out to be *me*)
