Number 1's tasks - list of possibilities, characters and length
Mine is to send a criminal to study the bible. Also two hours. Fat Tony, Legs, Louie, Herman, Snake, and Quimby all had the option.

Unless I've been very lucky guessing the "right" youngster/criminal/entrepreneur/civil servant on the first try, it seems that the first character you assign the task to counts as the one needed to complete Number 1's challenge. Solutions to the parchment riddles are more specific.
