I have experienced no crashing whatsoever, except when I went to visit one particular town it wouldn't let me in.
Most people complaining probably don't realize, things like not deleting friend requests, having an older device, having most of your memory taken up greatly reduce performance. Try deleting some apps you don't use anymore. Get rid of music you don't listen to. They just take away processing power from the TSTO, and it needs a lot to run smoothly. It's not always EAs fault.
