Same time kicking ridiculousness

Who gets hit when two fighters kick at nearly the same time? Especially the L1 kicks 1 person always leaves unscathed makes absolutely no sense, even visually it doesnt make sense what happens. It should at least hurt both fighters a bit. If this is just a timing thing, then where the kicks land and who gets hit makes no sense either. This just happened to me like 4-5 times in an online fight and I just ended up almost getting knocked out every time while nothing happens to other guy lol.
