@rallyefan 96 and 97 is the Golf Mk3, Mk4 debuted in 1999 and should definately be a 6 speed sequential.

Its a Golf IV, so 96 is a Golf 3.
According to this it was a 5 or 6 speed.

Its still the question if it was a proper seq or dogbox. I checked Gemini, looks like it was more a type of gearbox. Still the shifter can be a sequential style or h-pattern style.

Difficult to say. Compared to the other cars in the class it would be logical to go also with a 6-speed seq.
