Nothing is visible on the ground

Unfortunately it still looks like auto-exposure is measuring the full screen (or near that), instead of a smaller section closer to the windscreen area in cockpit mode. So, I guess on cars where a dark interior occupies a large portion of the screen, or it contains large near-black areas (as in the top of your screenshot), the auto-exposure is fooled into making the image over-bright to approach some avg. target. So on hood view, or external views without these very dark screen areas the over-bright effect can be less pronounced.
Users on HDR have reported better results, though.
