Re: Newest patch completely broke VR (not exaggeratin, it's now actually unplayable)

@EA_Groguet I'm not a developer, but I doubt Meta has anything to do with the issue I originally reported when starting this thread. The issue that the Quest users have reported on this thread seems to be an entirely separate issue, so not really sure why it has been posted here. I don't have a Meta headset - I have an HTC Vive and the right eye display is entirely broken when playing WRC in VR since the latest patch.

Hey there,

The team is aware of the issues with other headsets. My message was mostly focused on Oculus/Meta Quest users.

    Hello Groguet,

Today I tried to launch the game in VR again to see if after 1 month something had changed.
No, nothing, the game is still unplayable in VR because the right eye displays strange things !

Below is the link to the video I recorded so that you can see what the right eye displays, it would be interesting if players who have the same problem let us know if they have the same problem, and what VR headset they use.

@Sp0uny Great video demonstration of the issue. Absolutely ridiculous that a full month has passed with the game being unplayable for a good chunk of players. Completely unacceptable.
  • I'm on a Quest 3. This issue is reduced considerably for me if I turn on DLSS. All other upscaling causes this issue. Going from worst to best:

    OFF < Temporal < DLSS
Fidelity-X also fixes it for me, but causes other artefacts since it's not compatible with my 3090FE.

    Quest 3 user here, v68 - 4070Ti, 7800x3d, running via Virtual Desktop.

Yeah, the right eye bug is present too. But not all the time. It's more persistent when the GPU is on high usage - above 60%.

I'm using DLSS on AUTO + tweaked manually TAA (less strong, less bluring).

  • And yes! This games need more atenttion, a lot of stages don't optimized, various bugs and adjusts not done.

And I don't believe that the next update will be on the end of the season...

    Hi,

FYI, if it can help developers reproduce the problem and fix it, here is what I noticed today.
Following the purchase of a Pimax Crystal Light (before I used a Quest 3), after launching the game I had exactly the same display problem in the right eye => Exact same issue !

The Crystal Light is much more demanding with the hardware, and despite my high-end PC (7950X3D + 4090 Strix OC + 64Gb RAM....), with the Quest 3 and all the settings set to maximum I managed to have very good fluidity without any stutters, which was no longer the case with the Crystal Light.

As a result, I reduced most of the graphics settings from maximum, to high or medium, and when I returned to the game the display problem in the right eye had disappeared.
I conclude that even with a high-end PC that manages to be fluid with the graphics settings set to maximum, it causes this display issue.
So for those who have this problem, I advise you to lower your graphics settings, this will allow you to play while waiting for the developers to fix this problem.

That said, it is an annoying problem not being able to use the full performance of your PC and this problem must be solved.

  • Hi,

    Right eye bug SOLVED !

Today, I tried to make this game working with the Pimax Crystal Light.

There is nothing to do, whether in SteamVR or Open XR mode, you have to put almost all the settings on low or ultra low in order to have an acceptable fluidity, but with these settings the game looks like a Playstation 2 game, with huge clipping, the track flashes, in short it is horrible and unplayable.

So I restarted the game with the Quest 3 in Oculus mode, it is incredibly better, the game is fluid with all the settings in ultra, no clipping, in short a completely different experience.

I've only tried 2 VR headsets with this game, but from what I've seen it's only playable with the Q3.

About the right eye bug, I solved this problem on my PC by changing a single setting in the game: In the Advanced Graphic Settings menu, I reduced the Post Processing Quality setting from Ultra to High. If a driving session is started when you change this setting, it may be necessary to restart the race for the right eye bug to disappear.

So this problem is solved in my case, I find it sad that no one at EA noticed that this problem was related to this setting, and did not inform the affected players by an official communication...

@Sp0uny Hey pal, thanks for letting us know that you managed to fix the issue. I'm happy to report that your method worked for me as well. I haven't tried every car, but it does indeed seem to have solved the right-eye problem entirely.

Absolutely ridiculous that the EA support team couldn't figure that out themselves, if all it took was a simple setting change - but I'm glad I can at least finally play the game again after 2 months of waiting.
  • The right bug eye still present here. But only when I haven't enought power to processing the game (>95%). Seem that the left eye works with less frames, but the right eye renderer a black frame when drop frames.

    7800x3D + 4070Ti + Q3 here via VD or AirLink.

    Hi,

I think this problem remains if the settings are too demanding with the hardware.
Only one setting to decrease with my config, which is the most powerful at the moment, it is probably necessary to make other concessions on other settings for less powerful hardware configurations.
And what is strange and which does not naturally direct players towards the solution, is that in my case, the game is perfectly fluid and playable with all the settings set to the maximum.

What allowed me to find the solution is that I had to reduce the graphics settings with the Crystal Light, and which allowed me to eliminate this problem.

Then I simply tried setting by setting, and notch by notch, which made this problem disappear with the Quest 3.
It may be slightly different with other VR headsets and other PC configurations.

When will the VR issue of having to fallback on SteamVR be fixed?

I'd like to be able to run in native OpenXR
