How does the shield work

Can you attack a forgotten territory and not lose your shield? Probably a dumb question but I am new.

Your personal shield lasts until you attack another player
OR
If it is a new world and first base shield from the start then it lasts until you go beyond the forgotten level 20 base area (there is a warning you will lose your shield)
OR
the shield timer runs out.

Attacking the forgotten will not drop your shield.
