Another nail in the coffin from EA?

Prev1
In the last couple days I heard from lots of people, just playing the game as usual, receiving these kinds of messages:

"We have reset your EA Account password. We know this is an inconvenience, and hope you recognize that we take the safety of your personal information seriously.

What happened?
After detecting potentially suspicious activity associated with your EA Account, we reset the password to protect your personal information. At this time, we do not think the suspicious activity is the result of unauthorized access to EA databases. We think the activity may be related to issues like phishing, using weak passwords, logging in from shared connections, or using the same password on multiple websites."

This happens repeatedly, for no consistent reason I could discern. One hypothesis is that people login the same account from different ip addresses and then this happens. But that is not always the case. Probably some ips or combinations of ips EA treats as more suspicious than others. Seems completely random to me.
Are we now supposed to always login from one IP to avoid this constantly reappearing?
How often are we supposed to change passwords now?
This is extremely inconvenient! By the way, lots of accounts are not even associated with any emails to start with and have never changed passwords. This shuts down the game for those accounts altogether.
Note that this password reset happens even for the same person logging in from two different places (work and home). Can I only play from one computer now?
Think about collaboration within alliance. Collaboration and backup within alliance requires sharing logins. Is this meaning people cannot share their logins anymore? How are people supposed to do pvp and fight back during attacks in the middle of the night?

This makes the game completely unplayable!

We demand that either this feature is removed, or an explanation is made about what this "protection" is supposed to protect against and how it works and whom it applies to, so that the community can adjust.

    Agreed.

Yesterday my friend asked me to fund him and after i have logged into his acount he received this "letter of luck". Do you understand what happened ? You lost money and asked him to reset password. So it looks like i'd like to buy a service and you knocked me out from the shop. You are so funny and making me laugh.

I'd like to add few words to chertosha's thread about pvp. Many of us have alts which we use during pvp to close holes, for spying, looking for layouts, covering pois and so forth. Some of them with donate. Does it mean now that you completely kill this game as pvp game and that is tiberium sim city ? Good luck.

This game costs too much now. And there is no service at all.

  • I believe the only option to recover an account in this situation is getting to talk to a Customer Support rep over phone or chat. Provide them with as much detail about the account and proof of ownership as you can. But if you registered the account on a trashmail account 10 years ago... good luck.

You are killing this game, many will end current worlds and never play again, but it is your choice.
    Good luck
  • @sentierorosso around 1000 players have already told them this.
they dont care until their next quarterly statement comes in.

they will see revenue drop by 80%.
    This game is dead.

EA refuses to give an anwser and if we get too personal they ban us from the forum.
There is nothing we can do here except save money.
  • Agree with Redmatch

Wrath 24 and Tib 44 will be my last servers after 0ver 10 years
but EA are not Interested I doubt they ever bother to see Players Comments

But Devs what happens to your jobs when we all stop and EA makes no more money
Might be in your Interests to let EA know the players Views

I'm not sure how EA handles their account security policies, you'd have to ask @EA_Arcadia or @EA_Roger .
But account sharing is against the rules anyway iirc.

    @EE_Elephterion
    Are you kidding ? :)

    1) I'd like to remind you this thread. https://forums.ea.com/en/commandandconquer/discussion/255763/tib-42-game-is-distorted-opened-by-sentierorosso/p1

    Do you remember your answer?

@EE_Elephterion i can't find the correct link to the rules.

    2) This one https://tiberiumalliances.com/rules
    doens't work anymore.

There was a description something like that - if one the teams got an advantage because of any bug that is under the rules and forbidden.

Now about sharing logs. Don't make us fools don't make a fool yourself.
Everybody knows and for sure you know it also that all top teams share logs. It have been for years , from the beggining of this game.

    Summary:
    1) You couldn't rollback t42 server. Becuase you don't have such service which we are expected. You can't provide this servise. You can't protect players, You don't have backups, skills and etc.
    2) You are kidding me now talking about the rules and you have unworkable link , lol. Because nobody follows these rules and you also. You can't protect us in t42. Only you gave us a handout in the form of infected camps, for all teams lol. There is no service at all. You don't respect players.
    3) You have changed billing system but you forgot to change the links. Icluding a link to the rules. So no need to tell about rules.

You want money and you don't want to do anything to earn this money.
    You don't rescpect players
We are alone face to face with our problems.

    UPDATE:
Lol, just found a workable link:
    https://tos.ea.com/legalapp/WEBTERMS/US/en/PC/#section6

-Use exploits, cheats, undocumented features, design errors or problems in an EA Service.

Is it ok that i need to spend my time trying to find this link and poke your nose in "your" rules ?
You couldn't protect us , given a bone to us.

A little internet diving and you can find the rules.
https://web.archive.org/web/20200616125241/https://www.tiberiumalliances.com/ru/rules is an archive of the rules in Russian which can be translated.

One of the first rules listed is about account sharing (which has been part of the rules for a very long time).

The original English version wasn't available to the archive in June of this year.

    It was available here: http://www.tiberiumalliances.com/rules

Another one who is kidding me. Do you understand what are you talking about?
There is a link in the game interface where are "Options, Forum, Arsenal" and etc. It doesn't work !

Just imagine , you are in a workshop asking a service man to change a flat tyre.
    - Ok, here is repair kit, here is a wrench. Just "a liitel workshop serfing and you can change a tyre".

Stop shaming yourself with such answers.

I don't want to spend my time to find somethig to prove you something. I pay you money for the service.

Btw, i'm from Russia and i understand what is written in the link. Now imagine about the other
players. You tell them serf and then translate. lol

To be clear - the link doesn't work and EA broke the link when they changed the landing page. Until that happened it did work.

The rules haven't changed and it has been well known in the game in multiple languages that the following applies:

    What we don't allow:

    Sharing accounts
We do not allow multiple people to use the same account (except the substitute). If you give someone else your access information, we will not be able to revoke any of your actions. By this we can mean, for example:
He has been suspended or banned due to the player's behavior.
    Spending your currency.
Make comments on your behalf in the forum or in the game.
    Sending cities.
    Attacking your friends or allies.

Just because they can't be accessed at present doesn't mean they don't apply!

Edit: and for those who need it in English, https://web.archive.org/web/20170611191248/http://www.tiberiumalliances.com/rules

  • To be clear i know these rules. And i told you that every top team uses account sharing and you know this. It has been working from the beginnind of this game. And again you know about this.

Read carefully chertosha's message and his questions. The topic is not about only account sharing.

That still doesn't make it less against the Terms of Service/Rules of Conduct.
Now, there is only so much we can do for an active counter measure, to enforce this rule and actively prevent you from intentionally breaking them. Safeguarding an account with frequently changing IPs is one of them.
However neither Envision nor EA are in any way obliged to help players out in the case of breaking the rules and reward them for doing so.

You can try to activate 2FA. This way every sign in will be authorized by you and should therefor not raise alarms. At least in theory.
Furthermore, if you have login credentials for older accounts not associated with emails, what prevents you from assigning an email adress of your own to them?

  • obviously this game is being killed so they can take the engine and code from EA to start their own adventure but under Envision.

the rudeness of the moderators and 'i dont care' from the devs, the lack of response from EA other than trying to hide salary information of EA execs says enough.

I hope you realize how silly this is. Envision already owns the 'code' as this is still the studio that created the game to begin with. If we saw any value in recyclign a 10+ years old browser game, what would keep us from going ahead?

Regarding your problem I told you all I know. The only option here is to contact the customer support and hope for the best. If you've only come here to make random accusations I'll just gonna dedicate my time elsewhere.

To go back to the original topic of this thread -

Security matters aren't discussed - other than in general terms. But as this isn't happening for a consistent reason then the hypothesis may be false. The 'rules' allow logging in from different locations and computers.
How often are we supposed to change passwords now?
Good account security of all accounts in all contexts (not just on EA or for the game) would indicate that passwords should be changed regularly and not reused.
    This is extremely inconvenient!
Yes, it's very inconvenient, but don't blame the messenger, blame those with nefarious intentions who try to guess and hack their way into accounts.
By the way, lots of accounts are not even associated with any emails to start with and have never changed passwords. This shuts down the game for those accounts altogether.
This isn't the first time it has been raised that dormant or inaccessible accounts are being used. Life on the internet has changed over the years, 'free' email accounts from (in the UK) the internet service provider become inaccessible when changing broadband supplier. Part of the responsibility of those playing a game and using a login which is an email address is that the email should be kept up-to-date. It's a common issue.
Note that this password reset happens even for the same person logging in from two different places (work and home). Can I only play from one computer now?
That's never been publicized and I doubt it is the case as recently I've logged in from different countries with different computers.
Think about collaboration within alliance. Collaboration and backup within alliance requires sharing logins. Is this meaning people cannot share their logins anymore? How are people supposed to do pvp and fight back during attacks in the middle of the night?
As already discussed in this thread, the sharing of login details has been against the rules of the game for many years and those playing a long time know it whether the rules are visible or not.
This makes the game completely unplayable!
    The best alliances will adapt.

We demand that either this feature is removed, or an explanation is made about what this "protection" is supposed to protect against and how it works and whom it applies to, so that the community can adjust.
Removal of any security feature (if that is what it is) is unlikely be done on the demand of 10 000 players!

Finally, I agree with you that some indication of the rules that they are applying (or appear to be applying) would assist in the community to adapt, but it will allow hackers to adapt too!

    Here is what it says:
"Multiple people using the same account is not allowed. Should you give your login details to a fellow player, we will not undo anything the aforementioned player may do or cause."

This just absolves EA/EE from responsibility if that happens. There are no sanctions for sharing account credentials. There are sanctions for a long list of other offenses, but sharing accounts is not on the list. When some behaviour is stated as we don't "allow" it and "we will not undo this" and there is no punishment, it is not against the rules, you just get less support in related cases.

The whole community has been operating under this understanding since the start. Arguably, sharing logins for pvp is part of the mechanics of the game, because this is the only thing you cannot do in any other way, you cannot do it through substitution, and there are no sanctions for doing it.

Now to the main question: When somebody logins from a different place (not sharing logins) and is asked to change password - that's a sanction for something that is not against the rules - this behavior from EA/EE contradicts the ToS.

    Hence our questions.

The rest of what i wrote are examples to illustrate how this new sanction affects the community, and that is why everybody cares and can relate to it. So don't get side-tracked with what you think is against the rules, that is beyond the point here.

  • And in my opinion, what needs to be entered from the very beginning is introduced.
    There is an option
    "substitute"
In other games, there is simply a ban for logging into another player's account.
Then you can see the skills, activity of the player and not that someone is playing for him.

EA help is a seperate company they told me and they have no way to give feedback or influence any decision making.

so its companies hiding behind companies and noone has an anwser.

if you already own the code, why not create a similair game but lower priced and get all the current customers ?
