Has anyone scored a TD running from goaline formation?

It seriously seems impossible vs the CPU, always resulting in negative yards. Through 9 games of my season, I have ONE rushing TD, and I've thrown for 20. It's just a given that I have to pass to get across the goaline once I'm within the 5 yard line.

  • Yeah it happens with me too lol and it always seems that I can have a massive run and then always get stopped at the one yard line no matter what. A lot of times a tackling animation just completely stops any momentum that I have, it basically freezes my player so they can get a tackle.
  • Short yardage run game has its problems. I think it comes back to the DL being OP vs. the run and UP vs. the pass. I don't and never have expected the game to be perfect and I do think that the last patch helped a little bit as far as OL getting up to the second level.

However, because the backs don't hit holes hard or explode through them, running the ball is almost moot. There are too many instances of OL just getting beat at the point of attack. Then, even though a G or T gets a punch and works to the 2nd level, the back doesn't get to/through the LoS quick enough for that to matter. Blocker punches and leaves the DT or DE, but DT/DE still make the play in the backfield because the back is either too slow to hit the hole, or has a janky hesitation about getting going at all.

Then there are the flat out ridiculous instances due to the defense just being more athletic than the backs for some reason. Examples of this are backside run through on plays designed to go outside, where the backside DE or OLB not only manages to accelerate faster and then run down the back, but also manage to get through the jungle without stumbling or any kind of obstruction.

Then there are the magic recoveries and/or warp block sheds and tackles. Warp blockshed is pretty self explanatory. DL just loses his blocker as if he wasn't hit at all. Yes this happens from time to time in reality, but happens a good 75% of the time in 19. When a QB sneak actually gets stopped is a prime example of this.

Then there are more times than I'd like to admit, that the back goes into getting tackled animation while the OL is clearly blocking the tackler. And that's not the tackler making a reach or anything, this is the back getting wrapped up and taken down when if anything he should be stumbling. And the stumbling is ridiculous itself. Too much, too often. Pop warner kids can mange to get around messes and through gaps without all of the stumbling.

Magic recovery is when the defender that's the end man on the LoS either 1. comes hard upfield and then recovers to make a tackle for loss in the middle when play is designed to go away from him, or worse 2. End man LoS crashes hard inside and manages to recover in the complete opposite direction, and then even run down the back running outside. Both of these are things that hardly ever happen at any level.

The absolute worst, is goal to go at the 1, or 3rd/4th and inches-1, inside zone or dive is the play call, from any formation. Everybody manages to make their block, there are two gaps on each side of the center or guard and all the back has to do is lay down in one of them, yet he places his hand on the blocker's back and gets stuck in that animation until he's tackled for no gain or even a loss.

Combine these things with the fact that defenders win pretty much every tackle, as far as who falls forward or backward, and short yardage running is flawed. I'm not fantasizing either. How many times do you guys see your FB or TE get flatbacked by DBs? The hits are way over-exaggerated and need to be toned down next year.
  • I can almost always QB sneak for 1.0-1.5 yards from the goal line formation.

Otherwise, I too struggle to run from goal line formation unless my opponent is in a completely mismatched formation (e.g. quarters).

I haven't tried a QB sneak in a while, I gave up cause every time after hiking the ball my center stood up, put his hands up like he was blocking an imaginary person and my QB got stuck on him, losing yards before falling down on his own. Was this fixed?
  • And when playing against the CPU you're never running against a mismatched formation. Come out with a run play, and they are in a run defense 100% of the time. Even when coming out in 4 wide and calling an audible to run play, their "mismatched" defense still stuffs the run.

Seems like it has. I always aim for the edge of the center’s right hip, and can generally flop forward for 1.5 yards. I think I’ve only been blown up twice out of maybe 20+ attempts?

But yeah, I’m always playing against other people, so maybe a totally different situation than playing the CPU.

  • If I’m inside the 3 yard line and I want to run, I usually just pitch the ball out to the side with more running room. More often than not ur RB will beat the defence to the pylon.

But yes, I agree. It’s almost impossible to run it up the gut and score in goal line situations. But if u insist on running it up the middle, ur better off using the FB in an “I Formation” rather than ur HB because he can hit the hole faster
  • I can run up the gut most of the time, it's not a given, but it can be done. Also, all of my offensive lineman are 90+ run blockers and 90+ strength either through development or trades.
  • i almost exclusively run the ball in the red zone and have no issues scoring on inside runs even with my terrible offensive line (most are 75-76 ovr) the issue i have is with outside runs, i lose 5-6 yards every time i try

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I can run inside with no problem, but lose yards on outside runs. I can remember back in the day where the HB pitch was gold.
  • How do you do QB sneaks? My center just stands up and doesn't block anyone and I get hit immediately.
