Future Franchise Features Wishlist

Prev1
There are some people who don’t care about Classic Franchise at all. There are some people who care about nothing other than Franchise mode. I am neither of those two types of people. I play every game mode, and I therefore believe that I am a fair spokesperson for what many Madden Franchise players want to be in the game in the future. I know there are some features that are already planned to be released in the coming months and years, but I am making this list specifically for EA to be able to use a reference for what we want. If I miss anything, add it to my list down below.

COACHING CAROUSEL:
NCAA Football 14 did a good job at this. The ability to hire coordinators or position coaches that match your team’s existing scheme or introduce a new scheme would enhance the immersion and user experience greatly. These hired coaches could level up and give their teams boosts in ratings on the field in certain scenarios or overall.

CHEMISTRY:
Team morale and chemistry is vital to a football team’s success. Why did a CPU controlled team sign Antonio Brown in every Franchise in Madden 20 when that hasn’t happened in real life? Behavior and locker room relationships. A “teammate grade” type system could be used as another player rating to consider. If a team is winning, everyone will likely be happy. But if a team loses a close game or a big injury happens, players with a lower teammate grade would lash out at others and get frustrated, bringing the team morale down. A new coach being signed could raise or lower team morale based on both team success and the teammate grade of individual players. Veterans players with high teammate grades can mentor younger players with high teammate grades, raising morale for both players. A star player who sees his numbers begin to slip while another player begins to succeed could encourage or discourage a team depending on his teammate grade. One small number attached to the end of every players’s ratings could immerse users greatly and give Franchise players a whole new part of building a team to consider. (In the distant future, relationships could come into play. This would essentially be a teammate grade but with certain players or coaches.)

PLAYER CUSTOMIZATION:
Even outside of Franchise mode, we should be able to customize players with greater freedom, both visually and abilities-wise. Just because a WR or TE is known for being a threat in the red zone should not disqualify him from the other superstar abilities that are restricted to taking up that same slot. Players should be able to have more than two superstar abilities available to them, as elite players can excel in far more than two areas of their game. I should be able to give George Kittle Arm Bar (better stiff arms), Run Block Elite or some other blocking ability, and TE Apprentice if I want to. Additionally, there should be more visual customization options. More accessories can’t be too hard to add into the game, it’s just a matter of whether they’re prioritized or not. To an extent, I believe they should be. Let us have mouthpieces and multiple arm accessories. Even further, allow us to customize the faces and body types of players in the same way we can in Face of the Franchise. The technology is already in the game, just apply it to roster editing.

CREATE-A-TEAM:
Users should be allowed to design a team from the ground up. Allow us to pick from a large group of major cities (the city name would be what announcers can be programmed to say at the beginning or end of a game or when big game moments happen like TDs or turnovers), design our own logo and color scheme (an idea would be the Call of Duty Black Ops emblem editor concept), choose our own uniform design from all existing NFL jersey designs and a few custom ones, design our own stadium’s major aspects, and choose our own team name (this name should be able to be typed by users, not chosen from a list of ten that only has basic names like Tigers or Sharks. It’s okay if announcers don’t say the team name because they can say the city name). I haven’t played NBA 2k in awhile, but in the last game I played, the custom team design was intricate and immersive. I felt like I was creating an actual team. I love that feeling. I will pay for that feeling in Madden without hesitation.

CUSTOM SCHEDULES:
A certain percentages of games must be locked to divisional matchups, I understand that. But when I am playing an online franchise with my friends, I would like to be able to play against more than one of them each season. Give online (and offline) commissioners the ability to change schedules before the season.

SCOUTING OVERHAUL:
This goes alongside the coaching carousel. Allow us to hire scouts and actually spend time slowly learning about specific players. Have us tell our scout to go check out a college player and have them report back the next week and say something along the lines of “Coach, this guy is a gem. His ability to create separation is spectacular.” if scouting a WR with elite route running ability. Or “This QB isn’t worth our time. He’s indecisive and throws way too many interceptions. Doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing bout there.” if a QB has low awareness. Or “This player has lots of raw talent and speed. If we can train his fundamentals for a couple years, he could be one of the best in the league.” about a player with raw talent who can be developed if he’s on a team with the right scheme and coaching.

I know this is a lot, but with how little effort has gone into Madden Franchise lately, it’s time to add some big features. Just pick one or two of these to add into the game each year and we’ll be satisfied. It’s time to stop taking a step in the right direction, and commit to large scale improvements from year to year. Thank you for your time.

  • If you agree with or like these suggested additions or have some of your own, please leave a comment. Keeping this thread relevant is necessary if we want EA to see what we want added into the game.
  • I’ll continue to add to this list whenever I come up with a new idea.

    PRESS CONFERENCES/MEDIA RELATIONS:
When controlling a coach or owner in Classic Franchise mode, there should be a large pool of questions that you can be asked by reporters or people on social media. Depending on the way you answer these questions, fan support may increase or decrease, team morale may increase or decrease, and (if the question happens to be about a specific player’s performance, ex - “You really seemed to struggle passing the ball tonight, how can you improve?”) individual player morale may increase or decrease. Maybe a question or statement from a fan or major media member on social media can be replied to. Any aspect of the game that has to do with the real world will drastically improve the realism of the game. If fans begin to grow frustrated and reporters begin to ask tough questions, there seems to be more at stake than just the next game. You have to answer to people about your performance. Having goals to prove or disprove the constant interrogation of the media is a great way to add another level of immersion to Franchise mode.

    1. Allow teams to choose draft slot in fantasy franchise draft
    2. Be able to set Run vs. Pass % for simulated team games
    3. Sign assistant coaches
    4. Improve scouting process (be consistant with combine numbers to category ratings across all positions)
    5. Solid color kick meeter
    6. Add a special team rating for players (kick off coverage)
    7. Add coaching ratings (ability to improve playcalling offense and defense, team building, in game adjustments, finding late round talent, etc) by using the coaching points
  • Add things we already saw in the past maddens or nfl head coach.
    - hire real life assistant coaching (OC, DC or STC)
    - the extra points (madden nfl 10)
    - customization (able to change generic faces of players without altering real pictures of current players, able to change body model better than now)
    - fatigue impacting ratings after practices and games (nfl head coach 09)
    - start the season with re-do the current draft (Nfl head coach 09)
  • TRICK PLAYS:
There should also be more trick plays. This applies to the whole game, but I feel that Franchise is supposed to be the ultimate mode for strategy and it applies here. We should be able to run flea flickers. There should be bubble screens/jet sweeps where the WR stops and lobs it deep. I’m not sure if there’s even a double end around type play in the game. These should all be in the game. If the Philly Special can be created, it shouldn’t be too hard to create these other plays as well.

    FORMATION SUBS IMPROVEMENTS:
Some of the best cards in Ultimate Team are those of out of position players. Every once in awhile, real NFL teams will throw a lineman in at running back or a wide receiver in as a safety. Additionally, there are players who can line up at multiple positions depending on the team’s scheme. Taysom Hill, for example, has lined up all over the field. We should be able to substitute players into certain formations even if they don’t match the position. Think about the creativity users could unleash here, especially if more trick plays were added into the game. Julian Edelman used to play the QB position. Imagine a wild play where Julian Edelman could line up at QB, throw a bubble screen to Cam Newton at WR, and then run a little Angle route against a very confused defense. How fun would that be? Imagine playing Madden with your friend and then you whip out that play to take the lead. That’s how you get people to genuinely enjoy your product. The current state of Madden doesn’t encourage you to think outside the box and outsmart your opponents, but rather to play constantly until you find the few plays that are overpowered in this new installment of the game. Creativity with formation subs would be a breath of fresh air and would not be a very difficult addition to at least show Franchise players that effort is being put into the game mode.
  • PRACTICE AGAINST OTHER LEAGUE MEMBERS
  • ENHANCED GOALS/MILESTONES SYSTEM:
Every season, you set one goal about how many wins you’ll get in the year to come. And even there, the options are only between 4 wins, 7 wins, making the playoffs, and making the Super Bowl (if I remember correctly). Not only should you be able to set any number of wins or playoff wins as the season goal, but there are other things that real NFL teams set goals for aside from the number of W’s at the end of the year. Users should be able to set goals for points scored per game, points allowed per game, yards per game (overall or passing/rushing separately), yards allowed per game (overall or passing/rushing separately), turnover differential, beating a specific team (whether a rival or team that embarrassed you in previous meetings). Additionally, you should be able to set goals before each game. They shouldn’t just be randomly generated. If playing against the Seahawks, who have a solid secondary this year but a mediocre at best rushing defense, you should be able to choose to prioritize rushing yards and set goals going into the game. If your defensive line has been struggling, you should be able to tell your guys that they need to turn things around and get at least three sacks in this next game. This would also affect the “drive goal” system. Instead of constantly demanding that Big Ben scramble for his 20th career rushing touchdown (shoutout to @DyeusVita who posted about this), a goal that would never be actually given to a team with the the scheme that the Steelers have before they take the field on offense, personal player milestones that are nearing completion should be listed in the pause menus. When I step out for my next drive, I should be able to pause the game and see “Oh, Saquon only needs one more touchdown to hit a significant number. And Daniel Jones is 70 passing yards away from setting a personal season record. I’m also just 20 rushing yards away from hitting the goal I set for my team before the game.” I should then be able to use that information to decide how I want to play for that drive. A basic goal system that allows you to focus on completing multiple goals and challenges at once is not a difficult concept at all. There’s already goals for specific game modes. Even Madden Mobile has a system like this. It’s not a difficult addition. This would be a very simple feature to add into Madden 22 next year.
  • Show the cap penalty when making trades
  • X FACTOR TOGGLES:

I think there are some X factors that are very fun to use. But some of them are ridiculous and unrealistic. Looking at QBs alone, why does scrambling a few teams make you unable to fumble regardless of how hard you’re hit (Truzz)? Why does having a nice completion streak mean that the other team is unable to be intercepted (Gambler)? Most ridiculous of all, how can a QB know the other team’s coverage EVERY SINGLE PLAY just because he’s having a good game (Omaha)? League commissioners should have the ability to enable or disable certain X factors without disabling all of them. I should be able to give Lamar First One Free and disable Truzz for a more realistic experience.
  • Madden CFM Admin Tools List
    *Ability to Reset Transactions
*Ability to turn off CPU transactions
*Ability to conduct Roster Management for teams without having to switch to that team
*Ability to reset the final outcome of a game (for rules being broken in a game but the person breaks the rules still gets the win and no ability to reset that outcome, especially during playoff time)
*Ability to suspend players for different lengths of time for rule infractions
    *Ability to edit abilities
*Ability to turn off individual abilities IE those that can be deemed game breaking

X-Factor/Superstar Ability Customization: This highly requested feature by the community allows commissioners to assign X-Factors to any player via the edit player feature. Once a player has met the criteria to unlock an X-Factor ability, commissioners will be able to edit their player's Superstar abilities and Superstar X-Factor ability by selecting from those available within his position group. Users will have control over this functionality in both offline and online Franchises.

The team is planning to add this and other features revealed in today's blog: https://forums.ea.com/en/madden-nfl/discussion/262602/gridiron-notes-franchise-updates-coming-to-madden-nfl-21#latest

I thought I responded to this post but I don’t see it so I guess I’ll respond again. Could these other suggestions also be passed on to the game team? The problem with Franchise over the years is that these small changes are added but then none of the big ones are. Can we please have our voices heard on things like scouting and coaching carousels and chemistry? These are the things that make building a football team entertaining.
  • HANDEDNESS CHANGE:
This is actually a weird thing to me. Maybe I’m just missing something. You can change the handedness of a player (left or right handed) in Franchise, but I can’t find a way to do that while editing a roster outside of Franchise mode. Why is that? This isn’t necessarily a Franchise specific request, but as a user who is attempting to create a custom roster that can be used for a Franchise (and maybe a few exhibition games with friends), this would be nice to have. And I know I could just create the roster outside of Franchise mode and then change the handedness of players once I enter the league, but that just seems like a hassle, plus I’m likely to forget at least a few players. Also, I couldn’t play exhibition games with a left handed QB in the way I would in Franchise. Being left or right handed affects the way you move out of the pocket, which changes the play calling strategy. Using a left handed QB in Franchise but then having him be right handed in an exhibition match would be confusing and mess up an offensive scheme.
  • There are almost 40 recommended changes to Franchise mode in this thread. ONE of them can be solved by an update that has already been planned. If someone representing EA is going to comment on this thread, could it maybe be about one of the things we’ve suggested instead of the only thing that is being worked on already? We’re trying to help. Please don’t ignore the 35+ legitimate suggestions because of one thing being fixed already.
  • Franchise Players: We just want to be able to have features that are necessary to control, staff, and build a franchise that replicate a real life experience as much as possible.

EA: Best we can do is a roster update
  • Roster/Depth Chart overhaul: (Particularly in Franchise mode)

Time to switch up the old stale one that's been around for years.
Position groups should be renamed, which would go hand-in-hand with franchise AI logic improvement.
Instead of the current, one size fits all depth charts, incorporate a hybrid of the format that the team websites use & reorganizing the "specialist" positions. Positions that show up would be based on the playbook type instead of just a standard depth chart.
    My mock-up
    Depth chart
    Position
    QB. 1 | 2 | 3 |4
    RB
    -3DB (3rd down)
    -SYB (short yrd)
-FB (notate as optional based on playbook)
    WR
    -Slot
    TE
    -H-Back
Slash **(Think Taysom Hill, Laviska Shenault)**
    Off Tackles
    -LT
    -RT
    Interior Lineman
    -LG
    -RG
    -C

    Interior DL
    -4/5Tech
    -3Tech
    -1Tech(NT)
    -0Tech (NG/goalline)
    Ends/Edge Rushers
    -R
    -L
    LB
    -OLB
    --Weak (Right)
    --Strong (Left)
    -MLB
    -ILB (3-4)
    --1
    --2
    DBs
    -LCB
    -RCB
    -Slot
    -Saf
    --FS
    --SS

Most of this coding is already in the game, just needs renaming & reorganizing.

Would also be nice to bring back the ability to actually "create" new uniforms from the teams current color schemes and not just reorganize the current combinations you already have listed.
(For example, if it was the Cowboys, creating a navy/navy uniform option with a white helmet)
  • PLAY RECOGNITION OVERHAUL:
It’s ridiculous that, when playing someone online, they can run the same play almost half the time and because of the current “meta” or whatever, it works 90% of the time. In real life, if Lamar Jackson ran read option 7 times each drive, the defense would figure that out pretty quick. I’m not asking for a superstar ability that shows play art if a play is run too often. I’m asking for Bobby Wagner, arguably the best linebacker currently in the NFL, to maybe realize that the other team has run Verticals more than seventeen times and that, if they line up in that formation, maybe he should slide over a bit and take away that post route. I guess this is gameplay more than franchise mode, but whatever. It’s stupid and unrealistic and I want it fixed.
  • SAVE USER VS USER GAME PROGRESS ON QUITS AND DISCONNECTS. THIS WOULD SOLVE SOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR CFM LEAGUES.
