H2H Matchmaking

EA, how does the matchmaking work in regular H2H ? I am being matched with top players and I've played 5 games this year. Being matched with people that have 4,000 more points then me...and I am matched immediately, its not like I wait for a while...so its not because it is trying to search for a while and that is all it could find. Please explain. Would be nice to play people who weren't sweating all over their living rooms and use the same 3 plays over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

    We use ELO Matchmaking (Skill-based). You are being matched up against someone of equal skill level based of your data, so where they currently stand on the rankings doesn't play a factor.

    To add on to your question, you said you only played 5 games this year. Matchmaking might be a little off at first because it's trying to learn what your true skill level is. The more games you play the more refined the system will become, matching you up with players equal to you. The system has to learn based off your data. If you threw 7 TDs your first game, you might just end up playing against some of the top players in the world but you'll likely come back down to Earth unless you're able to hang with them.

    OK...that is really bad.... Why cant I just play people that are near my rank...ya know like any other normal online game? This is so weird....it never used to be like this. Sorry to say but this has cost you my business and several of my friends. There is just no fun in this anymore. You win EA, I give up.

    If you were to assign it by rank you would experience the same thing, however it could also be abused.

    If you were assigned by rank, you could play X amount of games in a row and then wait until you drop down in the leaderboard to play others of lower rank, giving you an advantage to climb back up. By setting it by skill level, it doesn't matter where someone stands on the leaderboard because you're playing some of an equal skill level. That is truly even and the only difference at that point is which teams you both select. If you're capable of climbing to the top ranks, then in theory you should be able to win against the users ranked lower than you.
  • @EA_Blueberry I can’t agree with skill level match making because, no once have I been able to win a Super Bowl in H2H seasons because of the simple fact that I always face a god squad the first round of the playoffs. Players team and overall rating matter when you play H2H, I mean you guys are so worried about the bums abusing the system that its not fun for anyone but the players that are spending their life earnings on the game to get the “best” team or the content creators of the community. I can only play so much, before I get fed up with facing fully powered up teams all the time. There has to be some kind of grey area because this isn’t fun to play H2H.

    @TheRebel31

    Are you talking about MUT?

    For MUT it's skilled based to determine matchmaking, but I've seen suggestions from others within here on adding a floor and ceiling range for MUT OVR range. My concern with that is that a player could swap their high OVR team to a lower OVR team (ex: go from 90 OVR to 75 OVR) to make the matchup easier. Most likely, the person with a 75 OVR team is either just starting off this year in Madden learning the new mechanics and gameplay, or new to Madden. This gives the person swapping their OVR an unfair advantage.

    I suppose to counter that concern you could lock in your team for seasons like Salary Cap.
  • @EA_Blueberry I completely agree with that Idea and feel that something as small as that change can make things better. There has to be some kind of middle ground to separate players who are just trying to enjoy the game, and players that are competing at the game. Hopefully we can make that change here soon so the game doesn’t die out early like it continually keeps happening.

    My PS3 broke & my ranking was in the top 800/in top 2% with over 300 games played. I can't remember my password or email for my PS gamer tag account. Kind of hard to remember after several years as you get older! Since I bought another PS3 4-5 days & I spent hours to be matched 3 times. I understand why it's matched that way. But how am I supposed to find matches now? I attempted for at least 4hrs today. Found 1 match. I beat the #1 player more than once & several top 100 teams from original account. I think you need to update matching system. This is very aggrevating. Especially trying to call tech support to retrieve my old account so I can play more than 1 h2h game a week. Couldn't even get a person on the phone to explain my situation to. Any way you could help me retrieve my account or at least point to someone that can? Thank you

    Hello and good morning, @Mallamooch

    Sorry to hear about the trouble you're going through with account recovery. For account security reasons, we cannot perform this over the forums or on Twitter through EA Help. This must be done through our Support site via the link below. There is information below on how to recover it and if you indeed need to speak with someone to help recover it, there is a contact us option at the top of the page.

    Appreciate the feedback on the matchmaking system. I think you meant PS4 since Madden 21 was released on that generation? Unless you're referring to Madden NFL 20.

    Seriously though, exactly how I feel. Like I get that I need to get better to well, get better, but it's 100% of head to head games are like I'm a team of 4th graders playing against a dream team.
