Slot CB covers TE instead of WR on compressed sets

Offense comes out in tight formation, 2 Wrs on left, a TE and WR on the right. I come out in 2-4-5 nickel man. My slot CB is on the TE on right side while a LB covers the slot WR. No adjustment: man/base align, auto-flip off, helps this. This is in an online franchise with rules so I can't just put a safety in for the LB. And I don't want to have to call dime or dollar defense. I just want to know why this is and how to fix it if possible.

  • Everyone has complained about this problem for years. I get torched in compressed sets because of this very reason it's infuriating. The alignment in this game is terrible. CB in certain sets won't even line up directly over the WR giving him a free easy release to the inside of the field. And slants and crossing routes are already hard enough to stop as it is.
  • I still think it's crazy that something as simple as getting 3 CBs to match up on 3 WRs is so difficult. Has EA ever came out and addressed the issue? Or at least acknowledge it?

  • Funny thing is that in the old Maddens you could set up individual match ups.

this is still possible using adjustments, isn't it? you can assign any DB to a specific WR/TE/HB (if lined up on the same side of the field). but I agree, it would be better, if the assignment could be adjusted more easily (or pre-game? something like user-specific audibles, coverages etc.) since doing manual adjustments requires some time and is vulnerable to audibles/formation changes of the offense...

I thought you could only match up by speed, height, overall, etc etc. I don't think you can set it up so that Richard Sherman will always cover the slot receiver or always cover DK Metcalf unless the above criteria is met.

I could very well been playing this game wrong.
  • No this issue has not been acknowledged or addressed. You can match by speed which will do the trick, kind of. Your #2 or #1 corner might be in the slot instead of your #3 though. So unless you have 3 99's be weary or you'll be lining up your #3 corner on their #1 receiver.
