This game refresh includes tuned mechanics and a post-launch Playbooks update.

Franchise Updates
  • Addressed an issue where players did not have enough time to snap the ball after SuperSim
  • Fixed draft clock display for non-commissioner users when pausing the draft
  • Some retired veterans who came out of retirement have been re-added to the preseason roster
  • Removed an improper in-game +[x] OVR boost display when completing a drive goal that resulted in a +Confidence boost
  • Updated logic for awarding the Super Bowl MVP
  • Addressed an issue that would cause coaches to not appear in their office in the franchise hub
  • Addressed an issue where boost notifications continue to display after selecting “Never Show Me The Weekly Boost”
  • Addressed conditions that would cause rare freezes
  • Addressed stability issues when advancing the week after Draft
  • Updated CPU draft logic for 1st round RB
  • Addressed stability issue when minimizing Madden during a loading screen while playing as a player

Visual Updates (Available as of 11/15)
  • Equipment: Updated the Player Exclusive Retro cleat to reflect the latest model being worn by NFL players this season. This includes the new Air Jordan XI Concord worn by players like Bobby Wagner, Michael Thomas, Alshon Jefferey, Jalen Ramsey and more.

Gameplay Updates
  • Playbooks
    1. DEV NOTE: We are excited to announce that for the first time in Madden's history, we can now support playbooks via Title Updates. This has been a long-time goal of the Madden Dev team and we've finally pulled it off. These playbook changes are the first of many we hope to do as we move into the future.
    2. Added Split Backs formations to the West Coast and Balanced playbooks
    3. Added functionality to allow slot receivers to motion out wide from the Singleback Tight Slots and Singleback Tight Flex formations
    4. Updated the alignment for Kickoff Return formations to address exploits around pinning opponents deep in their own territory with consistent coffin-corner kickoffs
    5. Some plays in the Hail Mary Spread formation via Custom playbooks will no longer be available in practice mode to avoid some stability issues - if users encounter this, a request to choose a different play will appear
    6. Updated logic around Coach Cam play-art to address cases where QB Contain and/or Blitz play-art could sometimes provide a pre-snap tell as to what type of play the offense was running
  • Tuning
    1. Removed the 10-second runoff penalty after the offense takes an intentional Delay of Game penalty, which was used as an exploit to run more time off the clock from the opponent's ensuing possession
      1. DEV NOTE: There are still other ways to get the 10-second runoff penalty to be called, such as after a false start when the necessary rules conditions are met.
    2. Tuning to prevent offensive players from sometimes 'popping' after huddle break
    3. Addressed an issue preventing sack stats from always being tracked correctly for sacks made during play-action passes
    4. Tuning to the camera-flip after interceptions so that users are less likely to briefly run in the wrong direction as the camera flip completes
    5. Tuning to Kickoff accuracy so inaccurate kicks will be penalized more, with wildly inaccurate kicks going out of bounds
    6. Fixed an issue that could sometimes cause an injured player via off-ball injuries to get stuck running off the field
  • Catching
    1. Addressed an issue sometimes preventing the Illegal Touching ruling from being applied correctly to receivers catching a pass after being out of bounds
    2. Addressed a rare issue causing the incorrect catch animation to trigger when throwing late across the field
    3. Fixed a rare issue where a fumble into the endzone recovered by a defender going out of bounds could be ruled as a touchdown instead of a touchback
  • Real Player Motion
    1. Addressed a rare issue preventing the ball carrier from being ruled down correctly during a specific 3-man reach tackle animation
    2. Addressed an issue allowing players to avoid an auto-motion before the snap, which has been used an exploit
    3. Made some improvements to CPU Ball Carrier logic to decrease the frequency of drastic cuts and direction changes
    4. Addressed some rare cases of players getting frozen on the ground after the play after some cut-stick and gang tackle animations
  • Pass Coverage
    1. Added coverage logic for the Deep Half defender in Cover 6 to cover post routes more effectively
    2. Added coverage logic for Cover 4 Palms to more effectively cover streak routes
    3. Added coverage logic for Cover 3 Sky and Cover 3 Match to cover PA Crosser plays more effectively
    4. Addressed an issues that would sometimes cause the middle linebacker to blitz instead of playing his 3-receiver hook zone when using the play Big Nickel Over G Cover 4 Quarters
    5. Addressed an issue causing the corner back on Cover 4 plays to stop playing his assigned zone when the TE had been hot-routed to pass block
    6. Added coverage logic for Cover 4 Quarters and Cover 4 Palms so that defenders can more effectively cover corner routes off of pre-snap motion
    7. Added coverage logic for the Quarter Flat defender in Cover 4 Quarters and Cover 4 Palms to react more aggressively to flat routes
    8. Added coverage logic for the Quarter Flat defender in Cover 4 Quarters and Cover 4 Palms to defend mesh route concepts more effectively
    9. Addressed an issue causing a Cover 3 Match defender to strafe across the field while trying to get aligned when using 'Base Align' in Big Nickel Over G Cover 3 Match
    10. Addressed an issue preventing man coverage defenders from being able to press streak fade routes
  • Blocking
    1. Added pass blocking and QB contain logic to address exploit blitzes from the Nickel 3-3-5 Odd formation and other similar set-ups
    2. Tuning to QB Contain behavior to make them rush at a wider angle as well as stop rushing to contain the outside when they are unblocked due to an overload
      1. DEV NOTE: When breaking down some of the exploit set-ups being used with the 335 Odd and other similar formations, we found that this problem was caused by a contain rusher either rushing the B-gap or rushing the same gap as the adjacent pass rusher. Since the design intent of the QB Contain assignment is to counter QB's scrambling outside the pocket while NOT being a pass rusher, we have made some adjustments so support that intent. We have made tuning changes to force them to rush wider, as well as continue to play contain in cases where they cannot be blocked by the offensive line (which means they will not rush the QB after a few steps if they are not blocked, but will continue to break on scrambling QB's when in the Contain assignment). If you want that player to rush the QB for the entirety of the play, he needs to be assigned a pass rush assignment via either play call or a hot route.
    3. Tuning to improve pass blocking when handing off engaged defenders while pass blockers are switching blocking targets
    4. Addressed an issue causing offensive tackles to use short pass sets in shotgun formations when pass blocking against some defensive formations such as Big Nickel Over G
    5. Addressed more instances of pass blockers sometimes falling down at the snap when using hurry-up offense, as some more cases of this were uncovered since the last title update
    6. Addressed an issue causing a blocking fullback on HB Toss plays to sometimes target a defender on the backside of the play vs. specific defensive set-ups which could result in a fumbled toss

PC Updates
  • Added the correct default button mappings to DS4 controllers

Madden Ultimate Team Updates
  • Added the option to play MUT Squads games as a Duo
    1. DEV NOTE: When playing as a Duo, you must select the Offensive and Defensive Captain roles. The responsibilities that were previously owned by the Head Coach will now be controlled by the Defensive Captain.
  • Addressed an issue allowing defensive teammates in MUT Squads to interact with the Defensive Captain's pre-play adjustments menu
  • Additional online stability improvements

    Lets get some new QB Cadences for game generated Quarterbacks in Franchise mode. That would be awesome! Gives the QB’s more character and variety.
  • And bring back the extended version of the pre-snap adjustments made by the QB’s as well(The Motions and gestures) It make the game more realistic.
  • What a great update guys! Need to test still, but this shows a team who is committed to excellence. Keep it up!
  • Any chance of a quick launch for solos that take place against the same teams and same stadium? Load times are to long when your trying to grind out
  • Pick 6's, punt returns for td, and kick returns for td should count towards xp. Makes no sense that they are meaningless in regards to earning xp.
  • Cowboys secondary team color for shoes,sleeves, gloves etc should be grey. As of now there is white the primary color is blue and the secondary is white again.🤦🏾‍♂️

    Why in the Heck Havent you UPDATED Leighton Vanderesh' neck roll pad. The man was only NFC defensive player of the week last week. ALSO, I think it's pathetic that you can't fully field 50 players for a COWBOYS theme team. There is no backup fullback and you need to add 2 more back up middle linebackers so you can reach the 50 player threshold. Please do something about this. bring out DARYL "MOOSE" Johnston or something so that you can have 2 full backs as well.

  • There should be a my player mode that replaces long shot in regards to realism. The player should be able to be controlled walking in the stadium clapping fans hands and entering, dressing before the game in the locker room, be controlled during warm ups, first person in entering the game with all the crowd cheering and all that. There should also be a first person mode which would seem pretty cool. But overall, there should be a mode that lets you have a full, realistic experience for your my player, rid of longshot.

  • Is Cover 4 drop show 2 a contain play? or are the two outside lineman rushing the QB?
  • Bring back the drafted list in franchise. We can no longer see who's been drafted if we start a franchise and do a fantasy draft. So now I dont know whos been drafted.

  • Really nice update. However wereally need an update to relocation which is two years coming now. I have relocated two teams, one the Las Vegas and one to San Diego and they still call both teams Los Angeles. I don't know if this can be fixed this year as it.is an audio issue but can we get it fixed so they will say Las Vegas and San Diego? I.mean you guys added those Cities to the game so I'd expect to at least have them mentioned. Also why is there no choice to rename your team for Las Vegas? Is this a NFL restriction?

    I have had a few issues with MUT. First, Can you please fix the matchmaking? I had an 80 overall team and kept getting matched up with teams who had 90 overalls or better on their team. I literally lost the games before they even started. Can you also fix the pass interference. I have users smacking me before the ball gets there allowing their computer controlled players to pick the ball with no P.I. call. Is there any way to get rid of the “Madden cheese” plays? I’ve played people who find plays that work against any offense or defense no Matter what you call and they run the same play over and over the whole game. These things are very discouraging and makes the game not fun to play. It has been getting progressively worse every year. As a coach myself I wish the game was more realistic...... on a side note, will Joe Montana ever be in the game again?

  • Can we get players profile pictures added instead of the black silhouettes? My Niners have a new starting QB (Nick Mullens) and a the 3rd round DB (Tarvarius Moore) who don't even have their pictures. Also maybe bring back the generated real portrait picture for the simulated drafted players like in 2012? This would be appreciated thank you.
  • Make Generic Playbooks plays accessible in Custom Playbooks. I run a Run and Shoot offence. I love being in a 4 wide environment for most of the time. But I'd like to be able to add some 11 sets or even 12 sets or even 22 sets for in the goalline area... I'd like to be able to set my audibles once instead of trying to do it between plays in audibles on the fly mid game... can you please add this functionality back? Also. In the Run and Shoot playbook Switch should have option routes that cut in, and go choice and slide should have blitz conversions vs cover 0... also the curl on the seam reads should like settle in the first open hole, kind of how the mesh route settles vs zone. But I'd be happy if I could just get back the custom playbook feature.
  • I would love to see when creating a playbook that all plays are an option to add to a custom playbook... there are plays in the westcoast playbook you cant add to a custom playbook.... the nfl is a copycat league so every play should be available to put in a custom playbook....

  • Get rid of tackle animations! It's ridiculous seeing the same thing over and over again, instead use the "real player motion" feature that you guys talked of so highly. Make use of it! We're almost in the year 2019 and the fact that your game still needs "animations" to function correctly is sad, use real time physics and REAL player motion, come on guys seriously, it's time to wake up and start focusing on what really matters in the game, actual gameplay!
