Animations Ruin Madden

Prev1
Animations are ruining my Madden experience. I absolutely hate getting sucked into tackles, sacks (normally on playaction) without being able to do anything about it.. having pressed the button and my QB begans to throw but then oh wait.. sucked into a sack! I’m sick and tired of my 6’3 225 WR getting mossed by a 5’11 cornerback because instead of the WR attempting to catch the ball, he decides to break up the INT but this animation is decided before you have a chance to catch it and there’s nothing you can do. Attempting a QB sneak and getting sucked to a tackle while inches from the ground and my QB getting stood up and stripped... the gameplay relying on animations is not working, they need to rebuild the gameplay from the ground or I don’t think I can play Madden anymore which really sucks because I love the NFL and used to love Madden.

  • Facts. A few animations that I have posted on the forums that ruin the game.

  • The animations that you have no control over to determine what triggers them is absolutely awful and has no place in any competitive game.
  • Animations are atrocious and EA doesn't care as long as they get more money out of the MUT geeks. The fact that it's almost 2020 and they never fixed psychic DB's or safeties running all over the field never having to slow down says it all. Rex told us this listen to his interviews. EA needs to lose there NFL licensing no way Madden should be this poor on PS4. They don't even use the proper engine that's why when they nerf 1 thing 5 other things break. I'm just waiting for PS5 to come out next Xmas I will never buy another sports game that has EA attached to it! Madden stinks, NBA Live stinks, I hear they even ruined Fifa soccer!
  • !!!! It’s been improving since day 1 but I think this is the key.

I made a post on game ideas & in it I suggest a huge overhaul of the reward/point system focused on player movement & moves that you earn to use “shortcuts” or “quick map” the moves that trigger animations.

But you’re right animations are what’s up! In this new decade with ps5 & the Xbox coming out I hope they go more granular animation control with an actual tutorial for each positions button map. That’s what I suggested. This way I think it will clean up a lot, make the game more in-depth, but not take away from the ability to change the games controls/“mode(setting?)”

I played a game where my tight end had a corner boxed out with inside leverage on a flag. I threw the ball because it's the right read, but madden throws my TE into an animation where instead of going for the ball, he's now trying to playing the corner.

Swat ball mechanic is completely broken. You're more likely to completely whiff on a pass the DB has position on than just going for a pick.

Ball hawk has zero downside this season and often is more effective at pass break-ups than swat or tackle.

Exactly and that second animation you showed is one the most one the most frustrating and I think it was you who said it doesn’t make the game HARD, it just makes it frustrating and not fun but that animation the receiver already has possession and unless the DB swats the ball or hits you near the ball (which he didn’t) than the receiver shouldn’t drop the ball but I have several clips of that horrible animation where it looks like the receiver drops the ball on purpose. Another animation I hate is when my receiver or RB jumps for the ball on a flat or some route they don’t need to but the reason they do is because they are sucked into the 2nd animation you showed.

  • These animations happen to me all the time as I am a pass first player. I throw the ball downfield and My WR has his defender beat by 4-5 yards. And he jumps up for the ball even though he doesn't need to allowing the defender to make the tackle or knock the ball out. When in reality it should be an easy touchdown for me.
  • DeVante Parker 6'3 Ronald Darby 5'11 Jalen Mills 6ft.

3-4 inches make a big difference as well as 4-5 yards

  • I made a post about it a few weeks ago. I don’t even think height mismatches are in the game. I played a guy in my league that has mike Evans with double me activated and I still got a pick 1v1 on a deep fade going over Evans with 5’11 josh norman.
  • Let’s not forget the drunken stumbling, or the ability to get hit, dropped and tackled instantaneously at the point of first contact 75% of the time... two of my favorites.

Do you all think of height made a significant difference in a successful catch, than players would only go after the tallest receivers in Madden and only throw jump balls?

They already do that with fast WRs, so at least there would be some variety.

Height's not even a weapon at all. This isn't an all or nothing thing, either

WRs come in all shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, the only thing that distinguishes WRs in Madden is speed and whether they've got SS abilities.

This year is especailly poor bc you all have made it to where DBs win 1v1 almost every time.

people will try to exploit that aspect of the jump balls but most teams in the NFL try do too

    What should really matter is
height/weight: being able to box out for position
Jumping: sometimes the 5'10 DB jumps higher than the 6'3 WR
catching: for both WR/DBs most WR have better hands than DB/LBs
Man coverage- lower skill should be more separation higher skills should be on the hip
    Awareness-ball tracking locating the ball
Timing: who pressed the botton at the
    right time

but please remove the animations that make players look like magnets.. the play to hardman above is inexcusable and should be reviewed by "gameplay" Devs

    Hardman is 5'10/5'11 190
  • Lets not forget LB's sticking with WR in coverage
  • If it was based off position and user like it used to be it wasn’t a problem to defend a tall guy going for a jump ball. Like they said, now it’s just speed WRs and guys like Mike Williams, Marvin Jones, and Kenny Golliday aren’t special when irl they are a 50/50 ball nightmare.

You can literally use that notion about any and every aspect of the game...

“Everyone will go for fast WRs/RBs”
“Everyone will go for QBs with escape artist”
“Everyone will go for enforcer LBs”

The point is to attempt to make the game realistic and competitive; unless that’s not the goal anymore... which I believe anyways.

And then 50/50 balls are a random animation not dependent on positioning, attributes, user, or anything on competitive game mode. Make that make sense to me.

Except that is the case in real life... top cornerbacks and bigger DBs can help but that what makes a player like Gronk dangerous but if you added elements like this to the game you guys would also need to add real game planning, as of now game planning in Franchise is three chooses through the scenario engine deciding how many yards/TDs you want to hold an X-Factor player too... that’s not game planning at all.

Oh and linebackers in zone covering 10-15 yards in a split second to deflect with his back turned towards to Quarterback, they’ve got eyes in the back of their head in Madden lol.

Size, weight, height, momentum... all aspects of physics should be an integral part of the game as they are in the actual sport, wouldn’t you agree?
