Nice! Is the arcade version using NHL teams or EASHL builds?

The arcade version is NHL players and some like special unlocks and stuff (this might be for campaign mode).

    (Hi Mitts <3)

Was excited about this until I read that 3v3 EASHL will be on a regulation sized sheet. Not having this on the mini rink is a huge miss.

No space would require a unique element of teamwork and quick puck movement. Full ice 3v3 in video game form will just result in people spamming the A button with the 7 miles of open ice they'll be afforded in this setup.

    Hi Jon.

They have two versions, the sim version on the regulation rink that plays just like regular EASHL you know. The arcade version, with money pucks, over the top announcer, 25% smaller rink, ice-overlay graphics, and other stuff.

Is the arcade version playable online as a 3 humans vs 3 humans or is it a single player mode like versus?

Couch co-op only for campaign mode, online 3v3 should be online and couch combined, if the NHL game website is correct about how many ways to play

Lol EA NHL and esports should never be used in the same sentence unless there's a "never" in there

I really don't understand this mentality. Esports has continued to grow steadily over the past several years and many people on these forums want to bury their heads in the sand and make snide remarks about it. Listen, it's going to happen whether you like it or not. No one is asking you to play it, but it would be a huge missed opportunity for the NHL team to not try and cash in on the trend.

NHL 3 on 3 mode is probably the best decision the dev team has made in years. It will eliminate the randomness and exploitation of AI when playing online. It sounds like it will be quick and fast paced which means if you get stuck with trolls, you likely won't have to endure them for 30+ minutes like you do currently.

It's about time NHL offered a less serious mode that focuses on fun. People complain every year that the game is just recycled modes and all they do is update rosters. Well here you go, they gave us a fresh mode that will likely bring in a lot of new players to the series and people are already complaining about it. I don't get it.

Do you not see the state the game is in? A large portion of the community has crippling lag.. The puck gets poked through the boards for a play stoppage for the 3rd year straight now... The amount of goals that go in because someone poked through the goalie to make contact with the puck is ridiculous.... there are so many inconsistencies in this game that it would be borderline embarrassing in an esports tournament

Not to mention lobbing turds from the blue line is actually a viable strat....

3v3 arcade will be fun for **** and giggles late at night with your buddies. 3v3 sim will be a frustrating experience of who can play puck hog the best, at least at the high levels.

Now that there is an over the top arcade style, does this mean that EASHL could be tuned using preset 3, or at least, make it a bit more realistic on the dangles/snipes??

Yeah, i dont think you guys realise the devs just do their job and what they are told. A few of the higher up devs make a pitch/PowerPoint presentation of ideas for what they think the next nhl should be, why, and then they get the greenlight from above. 18 is built this way to reach a specific market and increase sales, with a few core features sprinkled in to appease the rest. If the method works, god help all of us hardcore fans.

Most people have called for Rammer's head. In all honesty, and not to be mean at all, but his is absolutely not the right person to head this franchise. He simply has not proven he could take this series anywhere except sideways, or down. This game still does not have a definitive mode. Not a single mode, or feature is polished. Even when I hear him talk in interviews all I hear is ****.

I could see the 3v3 eashl part of it becoming a huge puck ragging issue. Will be far too easy with that much open ice to rag

It is tuned with Preset 3 (competitive). It should be set to Preset 4 (Sim). At least for Club matches, Drop-ins can stay on Preset 3.

    Yea meant preset 4.
  • I think OP nailed it on the head with his comments about the spectator experience. 3's mode will be much more exciting to watch than 6's. If this game can generate decent viewership on Twitch and Youtube gaming it will bring a lot of new players to the series.

6's is really boring to watch. It's a bit of a nightmare to spectate as their are player indicators all over the screen and the gameplay in 6's is pretty sloppy for the most part. Again, why would someone watch 6's when you can watch a better version in real life.

The advantage 3's has is that there is no real life counterpart. It's an entirely new thing which separates it from real hockey, which is a smart move. I think the competitive scene will really pick up with 3's, at least I'm optimistic about it.

Yeah 3v3 with full rink size is way too much open ice. With all the invincibility bubbles in the game.. it's going to be a ghost town after 2 weeks.
  • As an LG and 6's goalie, 3v3 mode is something i'll avoid like the plague.

I've always felt if we played on Olympic rinks it would allow for flashy type plays where you can't really play a total defensive type game. Let's be honest offense is what people want to see happening.

Er, yes... but when one side is defending, the other side is most likely attacking? It's two sides of the same coin, right? Nobody is playing 'total defensive' game even now, and even if you did, the overpowered offence and gimped defence and goalies, and **** 'fluke' goals make sure defence is pretty abyssmal experience most of times.

Or do you want just attacking and scoring? Using the same **** bug goals and left-right-left deking the goalie all day long? Why not introduce two pucks and let both sides in the fun, eh? Put Bozo the clown in the goal, because that's what they play like anyways.

Yes I'm saying when there was a ton of offensive chances the game was in a better state. I play as a goalie and a defensemen also. Look at how people complain in HUT about the people who simply put their controllers down on defense and let the AI take over for them. We didn't have that on the old-gen as the CPU would get dismantled. We also have human players with their back to plays intercepting passes and or doing the unrealistic chop to stop a saucer pass.

My biggest gripe is puck control is quite pathetic in the game. Getting pushed from behind leaves your player losing the puck is a joke. Some of the weakest bumps from the side or behind shouldn't knock the puck free off a player. The poking of the puck, and solid hits from the side or front should result in loss of puck control. You could say it favors the forwards with these changes but as a defender going in for a puck dumped in and I get the turn and a player to start going behind my net but get nudged from behind leaving the puck behind me is just a total bunch of crud.

Most 6's are boring to watch and usually end up with a garbage goal deciding the fate too often. Throw it on net to get the turd goal shouldn't be a main strategy that some teams use, but in many cases it is. It beats out setting up and cycling the puck around.

If the game mechanisms stay the same, I don't think 3 on 3 will solve any of these issues, do you? I think there will be even less passing etc. passing is always risky, dekes are almost fool-proof.

Yep. Pretty much gunna be as soon as 1 team scores first, it's gunna turn into puck ragging which will force 2 of the 3 players on the other team to HAVE to forecheck, which will spring a 2 on 1 the other way, rinse and repeat

  • 6's in 17 are atrocious and the worst they've ever been. 3 on 3 can add a lot of skill to a game that right now requires 0. EA NHL has such a small community, but if there was to ever be a tournament or consistent e-sports presence I think 3on3 can provide that. 17 is just trap and collapse, the slower game speed and passing inconsistency prevents teams from countering this boring style.

    I'm all for 3on3
