Skill Stick vs Hybrid

Hey guys,

because of many years with fifa and so on passing and shooting etc was for me and my brain fixed at x and O.
So i chosed hybrid to play nhl17 which is not my first nhl game, but the last was nhl 99 or so :persevere:

now i tried the skillstick but its really really hard to get into it.

how big is the disadvantage between skillstick and hybrid would you say?

in be a pro skillstick works fine.
as a goalie i play alternate.

but i think about to keep tryin but the more i try i cant see a big difference between hybrid and skillstick so i think maybe is should stay on that what i can.

Using the skill stick setup you will have all available commands/moves available to you, while using hybrid some things will be missing. I'm not sure what is missing as I have always used the full skill stick.
  • If you stay on hybrid, you are at a huge unfair disadvantage. The fine friendly knowledgeable experts at EA Canada refuse to fix this or even care... Nothing has changed on this for years.... You get the shaft on hybrid that's it. Their answer is if you had skill you'd change to skill stick.

If you prefer to change lines manually the option is completely disabled on hybrid controls, meaning the brilliant well thought out meticulously programmed game chooses the line for you. Luckily the line stamina is basically useless and doesn't have much impact, but if it worked manually changing lines would give you a chance at good matchups.

Even worse is the team strategy (forecheck, breakout, etc) controls are also completely disabled in hybrid controls. Meaning if you have an NHL 17 chump that gets up one goal hiding in his own zone you can't send in your forecheck to pressure until you pause the game and cycle through the quick user friendly well programmed menus.

It must be the "lack of resources" that leads to limited capability using hybrid controls. Most games are the same regardless or control scheme the player prefers, but this is EA we're talking about. I'm just happy to have mascots and a kazoo goal horn... After that who cares how lousy and scripted and repetitive and outdated the game gets. At least we still have the same animations as we did ten years ago and thankfully the fights and faceoffs haven't changed either!

Just the shaft? Not even the whole stick? (rimshot)

The only exception i could see is a different set of controls for handicapped folks which is a legit concern I spose.
  • Times change, we used to play good video game hockey now we're all stuck with this lousy overpriced redone garbage that doesn't work right and makes an uneven playing field. I'll move on when this game is worth buying again. I'll adapt when I can configure the controls like any normal video game from the past two decades.

You justify these things you hate with your annual purchase.

I'd give him the tip, but someone already did.

  • The OP is used to FIFA controls. Give him a break and stop bashing him. At least give him credit for asking the forum what the differences are. He had no way of knowing the controls that are missing from Hybrid actually exist.

I remember the 1st year I made the jump to the skill stick. It was a learning curve but once you learn the quirks of it you will enjoy it much more. I play Fifa and to me the controls are harder there doing skill moves and set pieces.

Isn't it the opposite? I thought the biggest complaint was that casuals can play with the superstars now because of balancing mechanisms and ice tilt.
