  • And by the way, yeah, If I get a lead 3 vs. 3 in EASHL then we are raggin the puck on you.

come and get the puck then.

Don't be a tool shed. You can rag the puck just as effectively even when your opponents are forechecking hard. It's just a **** move that guarantees you a win once you're up by a goal.

As shown by Bobo's extreme lack of sportsmanship, it's obviously apparent that EA needs to do something about puck ragging in EASHL 3v3.

There are just too many people who take this game THAT seriously.

The sad part is they do this even though there is nothing to play for. No tournament, no prize money, nothing. Even crazier they take it so seriously that they practically cheat in the BETA. You're gonna have to unlock everything again if you buy the game people SMH

That must be EA's way of saying "Please stop winning the Stanley Cup Pittsburgh" XD

May the Rangers, Islanders, Flyers, Leafs, Canucks, Sharks, Blues, Wild, BlueJackets (lol yeah right), Panthers, Sabres, Jets, Senators, Capitals, Coyotes, or Predators please get a taste?

No one cares about you're horrible joke. Yikes... to think that you even quoted yourself to make sure we all saw it..

I didn't create a 3 vs 3 continuous game on full ice in EASHL. Don't get mad at people that are forcing you to step up your game when you are down, there are 3 skaters and full ice. What did you and EA think was going to happen?

Would you like me to just give you the puck? Which zone shall i just hand you the puck? Let me know so i can "fair" this up a bit more.

I trust you now see where i am coming from on this.

NHL 18 BETA Experience / EASHL Experience

AI Poke Checking and User Poke Checking is RIDICULOUSLY Over Powered. Game is not fun when it's just a **** show for possession of the puck. I get needing to have the ability to play defense, but I think most people would agree that needs to be by cutting off passing lanes, and laying down checks and the occasional poke check from someone being careless with the puck, not poking away a puck every single possession even though the offensive player is protecting the puck. I have literally been playing the online matchmaking (not the EASHL) where it's 1v1 and the other person is just playing as goalie because he knows that the computer AI will just poke check literally everything. I don't think I am a bad hockey player as I have played for several years and my EASHL team is always a Division 1 EASHL team. But it's kinda silly that I can't setup any offense in this current game tuning in NHL 18 because of how easily you get knocked off the puck or how easily you lose the puck due to poke checks.

Side note to losing the puck easily, why in the hell can a player not skate while holding the puck to one side or the other (stick handling) just slowly glides to a stop? Like how is that even close to accurate to a real hockey situation? I think if you can still skate while stick handling that would improve a lot of offensive possession problems. If anything, just not allow a player to sprint while stick handling.

3 on 3 in EASHL so far has been enjoyable because if we have 3 people on we can at least get rid of the god awful AI. Even though the AI is slightly improved, it's still terrible. I don't mean skill-wise, so please for the love of god do not read that and think better jack up the AI Poke checking a bit more.

AI Board play is still stupid, can be skating at full speed and better believe it's a board tie up for some reason, You can't even skate around behind the net (like you know in real hockey) because the D guys (if AI) will just lock you into the boards or poke check the puck before you even get in the zone.

AI in defensive zone is still terrible, if you don't know how to change the D positioning through the in-game menu your AI D guy in 3v3 EASHL gives up breakaways like it's his job, crashes in the offensive zone at the wrong times, even if we have two forwards below the dots, the AI D guy crashes, should literally never happen.

Going to also throw a general complaint out that this game is basically NHL 17 with some game tuning updates and minor cosmetic changes here and there... If I don't see a change in poke checking by the end of the beta I think my EASHL team (of 12 people) are all canceling our pre-orders.

I don't get why franchises like MLB can make such a sweet game and NHL (my favorite sport) has to be so terrible. No one even likes baseball.... like come on.

  • Just got back from my Neighbors (he downloaded the Open Beta), I don't have XBL anymore so! Absolutely ATROCIOUS. We played 4 games.
1 game of NHL 3s head to head - meh, I played it back when it was called Ice Hockey for NES, NHL HITZ, FREE4ALL, NHL 3 on 3 ARCADE.

2 games head to head - W T F?? 1st Game - What in Gods name is that jumbled mess that happens in front of the net, looked more like pinball than Hockey! I have it oops I got bumped, #72 has it oops he got bumped, #65 has it oops he got bumped, #4 has it oops he got bumped, Neighbor has it oops he got bumped!! 2 own goals in one game (his AI Thank You very much). AI is still oh so **** stupid, I had control of the LD, the RD skates into my goalie...smdh, in the Offensive Zone on a 4 on 3 PP, set up the RD for a 1 timer he is set up waiting for the pass, CATCHES the pass on this weird looking backhand animation and then shoots the puck while on this backhand (so my potential Rocket turned into a weak shot that a 5yr old could stop), player receives pass along blue line and still does that half spin OUTSIDE of the zone, players still getting stuck in the Shooting animation long after the pass has gone by them, players Catching the pass as opposed to shooting the 1 timer

1 game OVP Couch Co-Op - As someone already said, the poke checking is RIDICULOUSLY Over Powered! Still able to be poke check from behind while skating forward (still don't get how that is possible but then again it's EAs World), a simple shove causing players to stumble and lose puck, the jumbled mess in front of the net, goalie kicking the puck into our own net (after making the initial save), low slap shot still handing out gigantic rebounds off of the goalies pads (still can't get reviews correct...that play the shooter crashed the goalie as puck was heading into net...waved off by ref but then allowed), Neighbor poke checked the puck away from our opponent and it sent the puck screaming down the entire length of the ice (goalie played it behind their net)

I understand this is a Beta but considering how well the NHL17 Beta played (had so much fun playing the 17 Beta). 2 steps forward, 5 steps back...I just don't get it
  • So my experience thus far:

    Platform: PS4

    PSN: Madwolf05

    Positives:
    • The skating feels a bit better.
    • The menu system is a lot smoother
    • The AI is a little improved
    • 3 vs 3 Arcade mode was really fun after I got use to it. Reminded me of NFL Street (never played NHL Hitz), and seeing the mascots join the game on Youtube makes it even better. Took me back to being a kid and just having fun.

    Negatives:
    • The AI still has trouble tracking the puck so far over eye level. This is most obvious with goalies. You can see them track the puck, then "reset" face forward, no knowledge of where the puck is once it passes so far above their heads. This results in easy goals instead of them "swatting" it out of the air for a possible "highlight" moment.
    • In 3 vs 3 mode the discrepancy of the teams was definitely felt. Being the Canucks vs the Blackhawks was ROUGH. It would be nice to see a way to even the teams out some how so that you aren't punished for using your favorite team just because they're down at the moment in real life. Having players use their historically best ratings (2011 Sedins), or what have you would be a nice touch.
    • Their needs to be a way for the AI to communicate what zone their playing on defense and offense. If the AI switches to maintain a position that the player has vacated, there needs to be some way of knowing this. I believe people mistake themselves playing out of position for poor AI at times because they fail to understand what their AI team mate is doing.
    • One annoyance I have that's a legacy issue is the AI "suctioning" to the offensive zone, puck, or opposing puck handler during line changes, which can lead to breakaways. The AI needs to do a better job of understanding what situation the team is in during the change and where they should go.
    • Another minor legacy issue is lines are too similar in ice time. There needs to be a way to better keep ice time straight, and the coaching strategy or philosophy should affect slightly how long guys stay out for and how quick they recover.

    Minors Suggestions:
    • I would love a way to match lines, and a better indication of what the opponent is running line wise. This is a big part of hockey.
    • A way to highlight the bench, or make a player go there. It's a little frustrating right now to miss it when you're trying to do a quick change and your camera is on the puck.
    • The AI needs to be better at making smart changes so lines don't get mixed up so often. It would be nice to visually have a queue when a player is switching as well after being stuck on the ice.
    • Lines should show you each players stamina individually, instead of as a single line.
    • Would be nice to see some sort of icon system added to say what a player is good at with a glance, that can be toggled on or off in the visual settings.
    • The option to have the name of the player and position would be nice. So LW D. Sedin as the player text instead of just D. Sedin.
    • A whiteboard that shows play art for each coaching strategy when you adjust them from the main-menu. That way it's easier to understand for those of us who didn't grow up playing. I've found everything by reading, watching the NHL, and Youtube, but it shouldn't be that difficult for future players.

Positives - Everything except skating and vision control.

Negatives - Skating is terrible still, slow, wonky, incorrect pivots, sluggish, delayed controls. Vision control still doesn't face the puck effectively, the old classic vision control was solid, we need that control back.

This is a quick twitch game of reactions, this type games needs to have virtually zero input delay and responsive skating.

EA, if you tweak/fix anything, make the skating more responsive and make vision control face the puck. This will result in having full control over your actions/skater, right now we only have partial control as the rest of the time you are fighting the controller when your actions don't register like you meant.
  • game stinks won't be buying it. waiting for the vault this year. pretty much everything sgiz says only i'd add about 50 other complaints. can't believe gameplay got pushed aside for arcade 3s and skating mascots. WHAT A JOKE!
  • Playing the beta I see y one of the game changers left the program this game aside from the DSS is not good instead of fixing things you put your attention to playable mascots and this feedback your asking for will u actually listen and fix the problems...

A couple of more observations from tonight's EASHL games: like someone mentioned above, the AI defence men can now pass with laser accuracy from their own goal to the opposing blueline, even when facing the opposite direction, so of course those 3 player teams are exploiting this. What's worse our players can't seem to intercept them passses?

Another thing, shortside wristers seem a thing, saw lot goals like that, and they even try it with live goalies.

And finally, the d-men AI seems very broken in this beta, in addition to the usual stuff, now sometimes after faceoff they just stand there doing nothing for s second or two.

Yay, don't tell me that please!
  • DJNEO, miss you on the operation sports boards man. Like Treatmentworke66 said above, you were right about the direction management was taking the game. They are concerned with pushing the Threes narrative. They should release that mode separately for 19.99.

NHL 18 is not worth $59.99 if this is what the full release is going to look like. Pretty certain what we are playing is what it will be with a few tweaks to gameplay.

Whether everyone realizes it or not, TPS/wonky vision control are the problems with this game. This game died off at NHL 13 when these were implemented, it's been a shell of a game ever since.

Look, the concept of realistic skating, etc. sounds wonderful, it really does.. However reality is it plays like ****!!!.

nah. it'll be worse. Just like last year when the beta played AMAZING, then the finished product came out and it was god awful. EASHL is missing the progressive attribute system...AGAIN. There's still time EA! LISTEN!

  • Having lots of fun with the beta first off. But i would like to see some things fixed/added.

First off my game has crashed multiple times and i have lost connection a lot so that can be looked at.

PLEASE give us the ability to pull the starting CPU goalie in EASHL and put in the backup. James Carter is absolute trash most of the time and putting in the backup may help out.

I'm actually there quite often, just can't say anything haha.
  • This is from my Versus experience.

Goaltending - It is still shaky at best. They are still letting in crap goals on a consistent basis such as pucks constantly slowly rolling through my goalie's legs for game winners. It does happen in real hockey but not everyday. So EA need to clean up the goaltending a little bit.
One timers from the cross crease freeze goalies. You literally have no chance on saving it. it just locks up the goalie and you are done. Not understanding why you aren't giving goalies a chance to save shots like these.

Passing - It is still off the make a little. It seems if you aren't in the correct passing lane then the passes go off the mark on consistent basis. I am guessing this is intentional. You actually have to skate into the passing lane in order to make a solid pass.

Skating - I thought skating was pretty decent. I was able to stickhandle my way through opponents nicely and make some good plays. The bad part about skating is that oponents can hold the puck on thir stick like a magnet and swim through your defense like swiss cheese and score. This has to be addressed. This is not real and has to be fixed asap.

Defensive AI - They are still stupid. They purposely leave their defensive positions on order for cross creases to happen. Really EA ? You see that all the time in real hockey where the defensemen got a smoke break just so their opponents can have free shots. Somebody has to fix this asap because that is just ridiculous.

Checking - Checking is shaky. Checking along the boards is useless. Your opponent bounces off of you and still maintains possession of the puck. Checking on open ice is a little better but my opponents still bounce off me and grab the puck before I do at times.

Momentum swings are just way too big - I'm all for momentum but EA makes them way to big of a swing where it cripples your opponent to the point where they have no chance of winning at all. You have to tone this down EA because it throws the game completely out of balance.

For example, I lost 5-0 to this guy. Ok no biggie but they way I lost is what bothered me. After he got the first goal less then 30 seconds later he scores again thanks to the too big momentum swing. So now I am down 2-0 less than 2 minutes into the game. My passes all of a sudden go off the mark, my shooting goes haywire and my defense for the entire game sucks thanks to the big momentum swing. I had no chance of making a comeback. I'm all for momentum because it happens in real sports all the time but you make it too big where it cripples your team permanently for the entire game.

Momentum is like the Force in Star Wars you must learn how to balance it where it rewards skill but not to the point where it completely loses all hope for the guy who is down and trying to make his/her comeback.

Final thoughts - I want to buy this game I really do because I love hockey but I'm still on the fence because I am concerned the EA won't fix anything before launch. So with that being said, I'm not sure I am willing to make a 60 dollar investment on something that only works properly some of the time. This game could be so awesome but you gotta show people you are going to fix issues.
