i here you and agree somewhat but i disagree on the animations... most of them are still way too long. a good example, loose puck, i'm going to get there first easily but we are going straight at each other, i know if i get it first i won't be able to do anything for like 2 secs and he will just check me/stick lift/poke and take the puck. so i position my angle so i'll be able to protect somewhat but a split sec before getting to puck, it's like EA takes over, zooms me right into the puck and then right into the other player and you are smoked, laying on the ice like a cripple and he just skates away with the puck.
previous to these new wonky mechanics in 18, i would have swung into a hip check rather than picking up the puck and would have ended up with my body between the player and the puck and easily picked it up and been in control but that was just a work around to this game and it's silly animations that take FOREVER to execute.
but to your point i agree it's nice that defending the puck is a little better. although i mostly attribute it to poke checking being very powerful. not so much the low speed agility. right now anyone gets within a few feet of you and they can easily poke it away in almost any situation. it's a bit unrealistic but a nice change.
and as someone else mentioned, many animations just kill your momentum. worse than i've seen it in years. and that's my biggest gripe. whether it's puck pickups or whatever. you will be skating just fine until the animation then it's like you are stuck in the mud. maybe it's the long delays. dekes quite often are really slow and clunky as well and the animations takes way too long to complete.
i think i've had about 10 situations where someone passed it to me on a rush and it went into my skates and i couldn't do anything at all until i was behind the net. checked instant replay a couple of times and each time the puck is off my skates and onto my forehand almost instantly but it's like i travel another 10 feet before i can do anything...even though you can see quite clearly i'm pushing up on the right stick the entire time and it should just be a tap in goal.
in a nutshell they made some things a little better but i feel they broke quite a few really important ones
So I'm not gonna get to complicated but... They need to make the old ovechkin bring the puck between your legs normal and not so hard to do, and I would greatly like to see Heights and Weights brought back to the game I don't wanna play at EAs chosen heights and Weights your already taking away my attributes at least give me height, weight, and my stick curve back, if anyone agrees with what I'm saying let's make it heard.
I think the biggest issue with the Beta is the passing. Sometimes the pass assist feels inconsistent.
In one instance, i can string together 4 passes in the offensive zone while the other team is pressuring my players, but other times it seems i cant make a very simple outlet pass to a streaking forward looking for a breakaway. Either the auto-animation kicks in that slows down the skater, or my pass goes nowhere near where i passed it.
Another example i have seen a couple of times already where a mistake happens is where i am on the wing with the puck, leading the rush a bit too far up ice to create a real scoring chance. Specifically, I am already across center ice, while the other forwards have only just exited the defensive zone. (BTW, I have only seen this happen with AI teammates)
I want to allow my AI teammates to catch up, so i choose to make the safe pass behind me towards center ice into space (holding R2 for maybe 1 and half seconds top) to avoid interrupting their skating animations and effectively slow them down. Instead of my intended target of the Center or opposite side winger picking up the puck, they skate over the puck, ignoring the pass completely, and in comes one of my team's defensman from behind the blue line sweeping in to pick up the puck, which at this point is almost completely stationary.
I have no idea why the game's passing logic breaks in that instance. Any insight would be helpful.
I play on PS4, but i dont think i can blame the controllers, as I was able to pass much better in NHL 16.
I'm a fan of your product and I believe in supporting the team behind this. However there are a few things that I wouldn't mind seeing fixed.
1) Your skater in general feels "heavy" when carrying the puck, and the overall game speed seems like it's a couple of notches too slow to capture what you guys are going for.
2) Stick movement in general ( even basic left-to-right) moves also feel slow and clunky.
3) The new moves are cool, but very hard to pull off. I think at least having the option to map them like they were in 14 ( holding the right stick to a side , and flicking the stick) instead of 3 buttons at once would make them more effective.
4) It's a very personal bother , but the between the legs deke from past years has become almost impossible to pull off consistently.
Things I really enjoy:
1) 3's in general is fun, My friends and I really enjoy it. Just think it can be tweaked. Really cool edition to the game.
2) Once you get it down , the passing in this game is very rewarding. I don't know how much you changed it , but I feel like I'm only missing when it's my fault.
3) A.I. will never be perfect , I get that. They still make me mad but they've surprised me much more this year than I anticipated.

Why didnt you correct last years bugs yet ?? Defenseman are still trying to score in there own nets like idiots. Goaly still get fooled by backhand glitch. And why the heck players arent celebrating goals all together like real hockey ?? Do you even care a bit about those who pay such a high price for what was the worst nhl game (17) ever ! Do something before releasing almost the same terrible version... Oh and when i press the pass or shooting button i expect something to happen... Lots of time nothing happens because the other player poked you or pressed the hitting button and his so so far away so it freezes your player due to preprogrammed actions that dont make sense at all. Bring back the player attributes so we can build them the way we want. Please bring back the fun to the game before Xbox one.
Also hitting and shooting should be with a different button... You hit someone while attempting to shoot or the opposite...when you want to hit somebody along the boards, you pin them instead and its not even the same button so it doesnt make sense at all. Lol
Oh and can anybody explain to easports that it is impossible to steal the puck from behind while chasing from behind...unless you are 7 feet talll you can't reach a puck who's in front of the one in front of you. The puck gets invisibly dragged behing ...great magic ea ! Lol

The presentation has improved, however there are issues that have carried over from 16 & 17 in presentation.
- Blurry logos for one. For example, when you start NHL 3 on 3, the logo in the centre of the screen is blurry. Team logos are also blurry.
- Blurry names on back of jerseys

In terms of game play, NHL 3 on 3 is fun, but can be won very easily with back forth dekes. Also I'd like to have actual in game pick ups like NHL 3 on 3 arcade. I can see this mode getting boring very quickly, just like NHL 94 mode. Adding in pick ups would make it more fun. I used to play NHL 3 on 3 arcade for hours on end.

For the beta I left it on the default. When the full game comes out after they make their last minute changes usually around 60-70.
I also usually only use Playmaker and Dangler in EASHL. Had a 10 assist game already.
So I figured out my passing problem. I didnt realise the game would set the default pass assist so high. I lowered it from the default 50 (which is crazy considering I picked Expert or whatever on the hosptitality settings) down to 30. Works much better now, and my passes are missing only when I mess up.
So most of these feedback comments are negative. But I'll start with the positives
-The defensive skill stick is a great, as a defender myself it's another tool I can use to frustrate my opponent. Also having pass blocks work with the stick is a great feature.
-The new dekes are really fun to pull off giving you countless opportunities to make a fancy play when necessary or not.
-NHL Threes is a nice new touch to the game, I'm always down for some new modes and opportunities to have fun with friends
-Also seeing the net come off again is nice to have back
-The puck battles and fighting for possession I found was really great. The randomness of fighting for the puck in losing and regaining the puck was almost a mini game in itself.
I am not a game developer nor is anyone giving feedback, so anything I say could be changed or is just not possible. So here goes what I hope can change.

-The first thing I noticed was the shot accuracy. Maybe because of the three modes with all the sliders at max. Even in eashl I found that the shot accuracy from a grinder can be just as deadly accurate post and in than a sniper. It makes a huge part of the player class system practically useless. Missing the net is not a thing, I understand it's a video game and it's all for fun more than realism but the shots are too good.
-With the nice defensive skill stick I found that poke checks are absurd. The ability to poke check is too easy. Countless times I was playing and my back was turned to my defender yet he could still execute the poke check behind me. All I'm asking is that it gets tuned a bit so that timing is more key than spamming.
-It was disappointing to me to see no new celebrations for our created players. Again I don't know how much time it takes to mocap the celebrations but just having the one mcdavid which is a pre order bonus is sad.
To sum up my experience with the beta, being a huge fan of the nhl series since 04. I'm glad to see some new things but I was still wanting more. I'm not sure how much you as a smaller dev team can put out on a yearly basis but inside I'm hoping for something big when you switch to frostbite. I'm hoping that maybe in these years leading up with it being a better engine you can deliver some new features not "new" features we have seen on old gen. I am 100% ok with nhl 18 being just a few new feature game if the next game, whenever you switch is really that next step for the series.
I will always play this series, people will be going crazy asking for absurd things when they just don't understand it's a process over the years and games take time and money.

The bottom line is the game improved on novelty and over the long term just not as fun as it used to be. We will all buy it but we just won't enjoy it as much. Just like last year and the year before.
One of my gripes is that we had 5-man celebrations in NHL 11 and 12 but not now? This looks ridiculous when only 2 of the 5 players on ice care that a goal was scored. The excitement in game does not reflect the excitement of a goal in a real NHL hockey game in real life. This needs to be addressed and implemented correctly as scoring is lame in this game compared to Fifa or Madden.
Puck pick-ups are one of the more frustrating things for me in the beta right now. Just had a dead puck that all 3 of us skated over top of and no one could touch it.
Please make it harder to score on goalies. Every year the AI goalies seemed to gotten better. This year it's seems so easy to score. This is resulting in games ending with scored such as, 9-8, 11-6. Hockey is a low scoring game. That's what makes scoring so special. Since there's so many goals it's not as exciting. Please I'm asking you please make the AI goalies better
