Who are they? How were they selected?

Seeing this post (https://forums.ea.com/en/nhl/discussion/131597/a-gamechanger-scrub-hunts) mentioning that a specific Game Changer represents the sleaze of the series, and then thread closed by another Game Changer...well it irks me.

This game has only gotten worse since last gen, not just the game in the hand, but the community as well.
I openly blame capitalism above all else for the game's failures (Publicly Traded Company. Their product is their stock, not the game you play). But it is not to blame for a community that praises de-syncs.

edit: my frustration is with cheaters, not the GCs. I dont expect GCs have much if any true input, but I hate that cheating is being promoted.

  • You blame capitalism for a small group deciding what goes into the game instead of the large community here voicing what should be in the game...
Sounds more like socialism there chief...
Their stock is inherent on how many people buy the game, if less and less buy because the product is crap they'll fix the game. That's the beauty of capitalism.

Whats going on here is people are going to buy it regardless if its terrible or not, so we have only to blame but ourselves
  • I imagine if there was any other modern hockey game out there less people would buy this title year to year. So yes it is our faults but for many huge hockey fans we would rather put up with a sub par game then no hockey game at all.

Originally they were being added by recommendations on the communities from various NHL webites, this forum, OS, etc. There was a thread here and people all pitched why they should be a gamechanger, what they can bring, and eventually so many were picked and a voting was held by the community in a poll.

The past two years EA has just added a couple of others on their own merit, but the whole idea is for the GC's to be community ambassadors. They wanted people who can listen, who reach out and talk to and understand that communities concerns, ideas. For example, someone who runs a youtube channel, strictly HUT, with I dont know...200k subs. Or someone who runs their own NHL website and community of 5k+ people. That person has a lot of power, a lot of familiarity with what that crowd likes, wants, doesn't want and can REACH out to those people easily.

We've got people from different aspects of the game and they are familiar with those communites. Hardcore HUT guys, hardcore EASHL guys, offline, you get the idea. These people have easy access and deep ties to those respective niche communities and have access to large audiences. And they all play the game a lot. So in the end, they were chosen to speak for the community. The GCs do have important input as we have an open line to the devs whenever we want, but in the end it's just input..we're not making the final decisions on things.

  • Awesome.
Now who from the Gamechangers asked for the Threes?

I know the answer, but might be interesting for others to know who's responsible (or not) for the lack of improvements in all the others areas of the game.

No one directly from us asked for 3's, but I wouldn't say it's not like people haven't been talking about something like that for a few years. A fun, screw around mode to take a break from all the seriousness EASHL / HUT provides. And I've certainly seen plenty of posts on here about people talking about 3v3 over the last year and a half.

  • Yeah no one, pucking no one, that's truth. So how that really happened to be the Threes no 1 feature for Nhl18? :)

And what's your favorite Eashl feature in NHL 18? Or Jon's goalie feature or improvement at least? Or all those other Hut guys, are they happy with the Hut this year?

I think the only guys that can be happy are these with YouTube channels because now they have another "quality" content for their ridiculous "fun" videos that have nothing to do with the actual game of hockey. So awesome!

    Sad.

It's not my favorite NHL feature set but I'm not going to quit because I didn't get what I wanted in the first year.

  • Yeah, maybe if we all quit together hand in hand we could send a message at least haha.
People are so lazy to fight for anything these days :)
  • I'm actually happy with the addition of challenges in HUT this year.

I'm also happy they brought back co-op HUT

I submitted a list of things to add and hopefully over the years they continue to do so.

We just have different approaches. You want to sit outside and protest you didn't get what you wanted in a year, be my guest. I'll keep my communication line open because I know this is a yearly release.

  • In a year? Are you serious? :)
There are many key things people are asking for a almost a decade now. From my group, your group.. and as an answer we get.. Threeeees.
"In a year" give me a break :D

But yeah, as much as I really miss the direct chat with the devs, I learned that this communication line on the public forum is cleaner than pretending to be a "Gamechanger".

There's nothing clean about this public forum...

Technically I have seen many times on Twitter and a bit on here of people asking for NHL to bring the 3v3 arcade game back. So there you would have it. Trust me if you check out their Twitter and Facebook thru all the trash posts you will find them there.

Many of the stupid features we see I believe come from Facebook and Twitter people who don't visit these forums. I still see people ask them to bring back the clown gear from NHL 09 or whatever it was.

But for whatever reason you left being a GameChanger it could be because you felt you weren't a difference maker or your ideas were turned down. Hell I've played goalie real life for 20+yrs and the state goalies are in would drive me crazy. I mean it's not like they watch NHL goalies play the game. They are using the equivalent of a 8yr old playing goalie.

There has been a ton of solid ideas posted on these very forums that the devs say they read but simply won't react why something like this or that isn't in the game and it's frustrating.

Ben used to comment a lot here. It was great. He used to explain why this happened, why that happened. But he, like like myself, can only read so much before taking a step back.

This generation of gamers, like the dude who demands BaP info (or he will never buy the game again), need to understand it isn't Ben's job or any other devs job to come on here and answer every single question demanded.

He didn't really touch the goalie stuff at all. Also there is a lack of depth to many parts of his feedback. But yes Ben did answer some things . When goalies had the problem of letting in blue line goals because they were barely inside their crease it would go in with a stupid goalie animation. Instead of admitting they did wrong they danced around it causing more problems than good. So many goalies have posted some workout videos on Twitter(Check Lundqvist and Bobrovsky to name a couple) and they are nothing like the way our goalies move in the game and it's completely sad. But that Stamkos down low slapshot in the corner works 10/10 times on net.

There is a fine line of demanding or complaining about stuff with and without detail of how something should go. When it comes to physics and simulation type stuff it should be of a higher priority cause gameplay makes the game either fun or a trainwreck.

  • 100%

I'll have to take a look at those goalie vids because I literally pay zero attention to them since I never play the position.

I can tell you playing D has vastly improved though :)

    Whats wrong with 3's, guy?

3's is da bomb. Thats all my buddies and I played. AI has no impact on the game, lots of room for creativity. If you dont like it dont play it.

And just realize, a lot people really love it.

You must unlearn what you have learned!

What are you smoking? In EASHL 3v3, any penalty results in AI joining the game, destroying the point of the game mode.

You might be confusing it with NHL 3s, the full out arcade mode.
