Trotz had him on the 3rd line late in the playoffs for a good reason.
Hahahahahahahahhahahah. Wait you're serious. Let me disprove you here:
1. Deking does not have a factor on OVR, only Puck Control, which he's high on since it's hard to knock him off the puck
2. He has the best shot in the NHL? Can't name anyone better.
3. His defensive game has improved dramatically. He doesn't "loaf" anymore. Very rarely. Those missed assignments were on the D and RW. Caps play with LW high and RW low.
4. Hitting, balance, strength, shot power and accuracy can make even an average defensive player be rated higher. Benn should've been 92 too though
5. Trotz is a moron, he did that to spread out the scoring. Caps would have more bottom 6 scoring if he didn't demand every player on the roster be strong defensively and give ice time to grinders
Ovi was injured heading into the playoffs. That's why he was on the third line. And he's got a damn good shot. Not many guys can beat a goalie with a clean look and he does it all of the time, nor are many players able to get as accurate a one-T off as him. There's a reason he's an elite sniper. He just had an off year last year. First year he hasn't been over 50 goals (or on pace to be) since 2011-2012. His shot totals were 3/4 of what they usually are, which is why his goal totals were also less this year. He got more assists also.
Every goalie looks to challenge Ovi because they expect somebody of his caliber to shoot so they play him more. If he had no name, he'd put up another huge number in goals. On powerplays goalies lean towards him. Is he the best shooter ever? No. But he sure puts up a hell of a lot more clean looks than 95% of the players in the league, and I'd be willing to guess that most of his goals come at tougher angles and at more distance than majority of other snipers in the league.
By the time he's done he's probably the best sniper ever. In his prime, the best. Yes, I am biased, but you can't tell me Brett Hull is better. But I agree with most of what you said
If he hadn't have improved his defensive game and passing I would agree that he shouldn't be a 92. He's one of the best all time in the playoffs, statistically, without a Cup. Goalies lean on him and still can't stop him but he has a not fantastic shot?
