Previous NHL games I’ve played on Superstar Difficulty in franchise mode. So for this one I figured I’d start off on all star just to play it safe. That was a mistake. Every game I got absolutely wrecked. Change the difficulty to pro and I destroyed the computer every game.
This is classic EA. I’ve dealt with the same thing in FIFA up the difficulty get destroyed, lower it, it’s not fun because you just dominate. There is no middle ground.
I thought with the newest update 1.04 that maybe they would patch it. And at first I thought they did because I was playing on all star and went on a six game winning streak . Then I lost the following nine out of 10. There is no consistency in this game at all . So what I am trying now is putting it on pro and then increasing the slider on the last tab that says “AI difficulty.” It’s a 0 to 6 slider and I put it on three because I feel like that would be a healthy middle between pro and all star that I’m looking for. Have yet to try it out we’ll see how it goes.
you all playing FULL SIM? I'm finding that it's almost impossible...to win consistently...I'm a decent player but its just too overpowering...and don't really have an interest in playing on competitive.
Wow. I really thought I was the only one screaming at my TV and yelling out "those f'ing cheaters! Glad to know im not alone in this. It's beyond frustrating, and I'm sure my wife and kids are ready to call the psych ward to admit me at this point. I saved up 800k in coins and built what I thought would be a winning team. Nope, didn't help one bit, sold that team and rebuilt, nope that didn't help either. Im on a loosing streak 3-30. I dont even bother with the challenges anymore. I also used to spend a lot of money on packs in NHL 17 and play all night but I can't even bare to play 2 games a night with 18 and don't bother buying coins either. Hope they fix this game soon.
My favourite part of AI is when you poke check them and the puck goes right to their teammates
People have been acting like that's the games fault forever... Literally. At least since 09 when I started playing. It's not like it's programmed to do that it just happens based on the poke angle and current movement of the player with the puck.
It's a lucky bounce and they even happen in rocket league when you try to make a defensive play.

Oh man! Just LOL!
Poke angle and current movement (almost) always direct the puck to AI's teamates!
You can continue to believe the game is programed against you and keep yourself from ever improving. "not my fault I lost the game said I had to." instead of looking at it as you could have made a mistake and that's why it happened.
Maybe if it's happening to you so much it seems like the game is making it happen you are poking in a lot of situations where you should be going for a hit or using another defensive tool.

The thing is, there are certain things you CAN control and others you can't. Take goaltending, often times people will complain at the goalie "Hey goalie, you gotta stop that", but the truth is we can only control our positioning. The game choses the save animations for us. True, if we're out of position, we can't always make a save. But sometimes even if we're in position, the game will decide to give us an animation we don't want. Like say you're on the right side of the crease. Puck goes on the left. Now you have to slide over and try to make a save. Normally, as a goalie, you would want to stretch out a limb while sliding towards the left and try to cover as much of the open net as possible.
But no, the game decides to give you a blocking butterfly slide where you tuck your limbs in, so it's an automatic goal.
Or sometimes the shot comes too fast and the game will give you an Auto-save animation, but it will drop you down and lock you in place, when maybe you wanted to quickly slide and do a desperation save...
The game has too much of these types of auto-animation situations in an attempt to "assist" the human user, but too often it's a hindrance rather than assistance.

LOL. And continue to believe that 99% of poked pucks go towards the AI because I should not have poked.
I don't even know why you try to defend this. Most people experience it. I keep doing my things because at least it disrupts the AI's attack (even if it keeps the puck). I'm pretty ok at this game because I keep improving every year since 2000. I adapt. Thanks for trying to raise my game! xx
It's not that the game is "programmed" to make you lose. It's that everything in it is so contrived. Like in that clip: the d-man pokes the puck off the player's stick. Instead of the puck chipping up and tumbling around, it stays flat to the ice, banks off the side of the net and takes an impossible angle DIRECTLY into the blade of the waiting forward in the slot. He doesn't have to reach for it, puck is sitting in the PERFECT position.
I don't know what it is, but deflections are always going towards the net or to an opponent's blade. It never goes to an open space where players on both sides have to chase it. The puck also never skips and tumbles on a stick-on-stick collision. It always glides perfectly flat, always ready for a tap in towards the net.

And like Venom said, we know the game is not programmed against anyone (unless you're playing against the AI because that's the nature of "bots" as your N64 old school **** golden eye **** likes to call them lol) but the game definitely does seem to be (unbiased-ly) contrived at times. Situations like a shot on net hitting the goalie and taking a bounce that makes absolutely no sense when you really look at the physics of everything involved JUST to create a scoring chance.

It's literally a lucky bounce. I've had it happen to me and seen it happen to others in the past. You guys can claim it;s the game programmed against you all you want but anyone with any sense knows it's just bad timing, or you're unlucky. I mean how many times do you poke a puck per game and it goes to your team but you think nothing of it. Only when it is a perfect pass for the other team do you even notice the play as being some sort of perceived problem.

It's called confirmation bias. You only notice it when it's negatively effecting you. When it is neutral or benefits you you don't notice it.

The physics of that bounce are spot on... Poked into the goalie bounced off his pad to a guy waiting in the slot. Why was he left alone in the slot?
See what I mean you see it as a problem with the game where it's just a ransom occurrence. You're looking for something to be wrong and when the puck bounces right to your opponent, "Oh it must be the game forcing em to lose." It's pathetic, I used to think like you all do and then i took a break from the game and now coming back I realize it's not the game it was my mindset going into the game.

The only issue I see with that play is that the puck is perfectly flat it should be wobbling and rolling. Other than that it's fine. Guy in the slot should have been covered and you'd have gotten the puck instead of him.
