This is amazing! Another thing I would add is to be able to remove the assistant coach. I have looked through all of the settings, and gone through everything in this mode, as its all i play, and I can't find it. I will play a game, sim to the next game, and all of a sudden my lines are completely different, and I have to deal with the moral changes of sending players down. This happens about every third game, and it is extremely annoying. Other than that, great post, sums up everything I think too. Thanks
In the settings you can set assistant coach edit lines to "no". Then you have to edit lines manually whenever their is an injury.
I saw a moderator say this is not place to bash the game and those posts would be removed.. I'm not trying to bash at all. I feel like this game is the closest to real style hockey I have seen, but I think the addition above would enhance the experience for the super hard-core fans and players alike of hockey. The biggest thing in game that would help is board play in my opinion. If you play or watch hockey then you know that multiple players get involved in scrums along the boards trying to free the puck. These scrums are usually more than a second or 2 as multiple players try to battle for the puck with their sticks, and they happen very frequently. This could be done with what I said about more pucks going wide of the net and into the corner or kicked to the corner by the goalie even. One last thing I forgot is goal celebrations...the whole team raises sticks after a goal, but only 2 guys seem to come together and "hug it out" following goals. A team huddling around the goal scorer would just add more satisfaction too the realism of it all. Thanks EA for giving us a way to express the things we would appreciate in the game. I bought NHL18 just a couple a weeks ago when I got the one, but excited to see what you guys do with 19.
id like to see players having the ability to reach for the puck, like in madden but with a stick and a puck. That could eliminate skating over/ by the puck. Even on a 2 on 1 you could lead the guy with a saucer pass, and he could try to reach and tip it in. It happens frequently in the NHL.
Thanks

I think he means having a button or a modifier combined with a stick to reach for the puck.
I'm kind of missing that too. As of now, you can only move your player to the whereabouts of the puck, let go of everything and beg that the pick-up animation kicks in for you first. There's nothing you can do, to "help" your player find the puck.
If you do the intuitive thing and poke for it or press left stick down to go for it, you're actually making things worse, because then you're in "poke-mode" or "sprint-mode", while you should be in "glide-mode".
Personally, I think the transitions between these "modes" flow a lot better in real life. They are overlapping each other switching from one to the other all the time.
I really appreciate that they're trying to implement these things into the game, but as one would expect it gets too rigid and stiff when you try to put all this into code. I think it needs a ton of testing, tuning, and polishing. Add the huge problems this game is having with latency and you're in bingo-mode, which is exactly how it feels sometimes.
While we're waiting for the right coded, tuned and polished version of what they are trying to achieve, and the latency problems to be minimized, some kind of action you could do, as a player, to reach for the puck, would be a very nice addition.

Ah, ok. Got it. Not necessarily a bad idea, depending on how it is implemented. I guess animations are the way to go.
I would love to see the option doing some mods on the arenas/rinks, jerseys etc and then sharing it with the community. Would be awesome to get some realistic atmosphere while playing the game.
In BAP, I think you should be able to request to play with a certain teammate. Like if you really wnjoy playong with a guy who is on line 2, you should be able to request to play with him or stay on that line, and just have the coach give your whole line more minutes. It would be more fun that way.
And you shpuld introduce the whole US based players. They are missing from the games and it would be more fun having all prospects in the game for GM mode.
First of all, I'd like to say that I love the improvements you've made to NHL 18. The programmers really fixed a lot of issues and whoever created that plexiglass shader did an amazing job. (applause)
I know this is a wishlist and I'm sure you are 90% done with creating NHL 19. Ha! So maybe this is a NHL 20 wishlight. Anyway, here it goes:
- are you planning on updating to the Frostbite engine?
- create 5-6 goalie mask designs which the user can change the colors and add the team logo
- fix the intermission camera angle where the players are walking off and are stepping on top of the trash can. It looks like the game models are composited over a flat image
- sorry, I love stats. Instead of just highlighting a player, it would great to see power play/penalty kill ranks and %, win streaks, division standings, goalie stats, player streaks, etc in modes like Franchise, Season, and wherever makes sense. (it might already exist in areas)
- in club, I miss the player stats at the beginning of the game and the goalie comparison
- in club, I think it would be AMAZING if you added the boost feature from NHL Threes. So, when playing NHL Threes circuit I noticed players have a skating boost, shooting boost, etc. In club, it would be cool to unlock boosts so that you could pick an Offensive Defensemen but apply a physical boost so he can hit. The catch would be that you can only apply one boost (no stacking) so that it is fair for lower level players
- in club, you could also steal the player card feature from NHL Threes. The club would unlock an AI card that has a player type with maybe a certain boost. So if the club unlocks a Defensive Defenseman with a shooting boost, the club could place that AI card on RD and that would be your RD as long a human player doesn't take that position
- NHL Threes is AWESOME!!! If you bring that back, can you add the ability to change your team name to something besides the Fridge Raiders? Maybe have 7-10 options and it be something you unlock after the first circuit
- I know this is requesting the impossible, but a face creation overhaul would be fantasic. I know that EA has separate studios working on different games and I'm not expecting Sims level of customization. However, the ability to tweak the eye, nose, brow, mouth, zygomatic arch, mandible, etc would add so much depth to player customization. I know this is a lot of programming and you'd probably need a new basemesh, textures, blend shapes, FACS, etc., but I can still dream
- animation blending! So many times I perform a move, recognize I should have done something different, but now have to wait for the animation to complete while my player is getting steamrolled by an enforcer
Look I know this will probably catch a lot of flak from people but might as well...
I recognize that HUT/online play in general is the EA cash cow, but as someone that plays almost exclusively offline I would actually be willing to pay for a DLC that adds a FULLY thought through non-linear story mode.
I'm not saying go full out 2K sports where they turned it in to a pay to win cash wh*** system but something along the lines of creating your own player and having it almost feel like an RPG. You already can play as a 15 yr old in the junior leagues. Why not add in mechanics where you can decide time you put into studying/practicing.
Throw in a practice mode similar to 2k with perks/skills/attribute training. Attributes are across all classes of skaters/goalies. Perks/skills are limited solely to the skater/goalie class with appropriate crossovers. For example... Stick check mastery: rookie, veteran, pro, legend. Increasing levels make you more likely to successfully stick check and less likely to trip the **** out of another player.
Throw in having a manager that you work with/can interact with in a menu option. Don't like your draft prospects for being able to get on the team you want to play for? Play for an alternate league or play college hockey. If it's a licensing issue for other leagues and their teams why not make up league names/teams and logos. I'd rather see a completely random generated league than not have anything exist at all.
Throw in a coach interaction menu where you can spend idk influence points for: number you want, more ice time, better contract option starting points, etc.
Hell if you're going to have contracts, spending caps, etc in be a pro you might as well make it so you can spend that "cash" on something... whether its a personal trainer... your agent/manager... different activities to increase your team/individual popularity... whatever. I mean it's not unprecedented. Vincent Lecalvier helped BUILD a children's hospital in the tampa bay area.
Update/upgrade the facial design system. Some of the people to include existing players look like friggin troglodytes. In fact player creation in general should have some relative connection to max stat values (height and weight). There's very few giants on the ice that move with the same degree of speed, acceleration, and agility, as some of the smaller guys, and there's not very many smaller guys that have the same strength and power as some of the bigger guys. Case in point... I know St Louis was scrappy as hell but I doubt he could have gone toe to toe in a fight with Chara and come out on top.
Speaking of fights... why not have team rows? I mean there's usually one main fight when they do break out on the ice but there's also plenty of side action to include the occasional full on team brawls (rare). So why not make the game mechanics reflect that in say a rivalry playoff game that has a dirty hit... people start throwing hands and it turns into a brawl.
Please for the love of God make stat gain and loss realistic. If I'm playing the best game of D in my life... but my other D and goalie are playing their worst game don't kill me for it in stats. Likewise, DISCIPLINE stats should be based on excessive penalties and poor position penalties. Playing a literally perfect game and having one penalty that doesn't have any goals against while shorthanded should not wreck your discipline for the game. Just decrease your overall positive gain. If you're in the penalty box left and right that's a completely different story. What does poise even do? Every stat/attribute should be trainable or be able to increase/decrease. And for all of us that might wonder how to increase/decrease a certain stat... why not make a box menu to the side that auto pops up when you review a specific stat that outlines its purpose/function and how to increase it/decrease it through gameplay or practice.
I'd also love to see more of the historical jerseys (home, away, stadiums, specialty, and alternates) for all of the teams. You can make them unlockable or whatever.
Basically it all boils down to this... for offline play I want as many immersive events/options in the game play as possible. If I have to pay more for a DLC that has all this because you had to make it as an add-on so be it. But as it stands, if the game keeps moving towards online cash cow play without any bones thrown towards offline play I'll likely not buy it at all, even though I DO play some of the online modes.
I know my previous comment was part rant/part wishlist but I do want to say that I do actually appreciate the work you all have put in to fix bugs and issues here and there. I enjoy playing the game immensely, but in order to invest in future games I'd just like to see a little more on the immersion side.
I would love a season mode that lets you do multiple seasons and shorter length. Why is it that EA doesn't allow shorter length seasons? The show does it well where you can do 29 games and still manage in the offseason. My buddy and I do it with NBA2k as well where you can do fantasy draft, 29 game season mode, and then change the playoff format to 1 game. Really fun, but it's too much to do 82 game seasons and I do not like to sim.
The face-off tie-up has been bugging me forever. We do tons of goals in EASHL with a set-up play using the tie-up, but it has to be fixed. I'm not even sure that play is allowed in the NHL. In international play you need to play the puck before the man. When have you ever seen a face-off when the other center pushes the other center so far back that the winger can just pick up the puck cleanly. Never, right? NHL rule 76.6 states that, “if a center should move prematurely prior to the faceoff, or if the referee or linesman shall have dropped the puck unfairly, the faceoff shall be considered a face-off violation and it must be conducted again.” Pretty much the only way one could successfully do an EA SPORTS NHL tie-up is to break this rule. I've played hockey for 20 years, i know. Every face-off can't be a clean win, that's obvious, but the tie-up can never be such an easy win as it is today.
People often argue that "well if you know he's taking the tie-up, just take the forehand". That is sooooo wrong. The guy with the tie-up mentality always has the edge because when he sees the opponent countering with the forehand, he simply takes a clean backhand. Personally i can take the edge away by using a couple of face-off glitches but you shouldn't have to use glitches to win.
Protecting the puck:
This is probably the most ridiculous thing in EA's NHL games. placing the puck 180 degrees around your body and just wiggling your way across the ice. If you defend a guy like this by just matching his speed, you can't really do **** - except get yourself a tripping penalty. Even if you are both almost standing still, you can't push or cross-check him off the puck. The easiest defensive situation in real life has become the hardest defensive situation in this virtual hockey.
AI doesn't seem to have too much trouble pushing those guys off the puck. Just give us the same ability.
I dont know what its a product of but hitting is almost out of the game. It used to be fun, felt good, and was effective but now its low collision bumper cars. Play or watch any stream and you'll find that its barely part of the game anymore which is sad
Only 2 things that really matter to me at this point:
Make turns at a standstill much quicker. Incredibly slow as it is. Same could be said while at slow speeds.
Stop sucking my player to the puck. There are times where I am literally 15 feet away from the puck and the game completely sucks me to the puck. No controls respond during this time. Happened no less than 2 nights ago where I was skating up ice, slowly, and the puck was to my right at least 15 feet away and the game completely sucked my player to the puck. I don't always want to be where the puck is, sometimes I want to go where the puck will be.
These 2 things are the bare minimum I need to see to consider buying this game in September. If not, might be another January buy at 60% off.
Wish for 19
1. I'd enjoy a quicker control reflex for one timers and dekes.
2. I think it would make the game more realistic if it allowed easier ability to shoot and score from the D blue line to go in more like real hockey including redirected shots from offensmen in front of the net.
3. I am a fan of some of the old games and always enjoyed a "turbo" speed button.
4. I think it would be a cool addition to have to show coaches flipping out on some called penatlys in the game.
