+/- column??

Can anyone explain what the +/- stat Represents?

  • Google is your friend, however I will tell you, but rather than fumble through an explanation, I will post what the NHL site states.

    A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic.
  • If a player is on the ice when his team scores, it's a plus. If he's on the ice when the other team scores it's a minus. However a PP goal does not count for a plus. But a SH goal will count for a plus or minus
