How many of you went back to 16? Interested in that one if I get a new gen.
How many of you went back to 17?Interested in that one also.
How many of you went back to old gen?
I assume NHL 15 is still popular now days?.
I assume Hut is only active on new ones right?.
If you come back to 14,it still has a good number of players. Very rare to struggle to get games in,even at 1 am.

  • Old gen is so much better
  • Nope...no need to...the game is a lot better now
  • I wish I still had NHL 10 for my 360 but I got NHL Legacy, still plays decently. But I've been playing Gran Turismo Sport and other racing games on PC a lot lately, lost interest in other game genres for now.
  • If I hadn't traded them in every year, I would go back. NHL 11 was by far the best. Whatever year they came our with HUT, is when it began to go downhill.
  • I've gone back to play NHL 2K8 and 2K10 on my Xbox 360. I prefer 2K8. I think I booted up NHL 15 on the 360 once last year. Suprisingly there were still a few people playing it in drop-ins.

I like 2k8 as well, although it's a little tricky to get into because of the button to shoot

More surprising is that the servers were still up.

Those of us that have spent a lot of time playing this game are trashing it. There is no defending this game in it's current state. The people that are just think they are good or are just benefiting from the bugs.

What would be really fun is if someone figures out how to play a snes or genesis versions of nhl online.

  • You can formulate a valid and constructive opinion on something without actually using it. There's lots of video and written information about this game and if you take stuff that is biased in both directions and formulate your own opinion it is possible it can be very constructive and useful.

Personally I have fun when I pop in legacy for a game or two a week. Sometimes more sometimes less but not playing every day makes it much more fun to me than when I was playing every day and it just starts to wear on you and get repetitive. I've found I can't do that with many games like this anymore.

And then there are those of us who actually like the game the way it is. Is it perfect? No, but it is pretty good with the right settings. So you can stop acting like everyone hates the game because that is not the case at all. There are many people who play the game, so it must have some lasting appeal. As far as the other guy goes I hold firm on my comments about him not having any right to make a judgment on a game he has not played, it doesn't hold much if any weight.

I'm not saying you or anyone else is wrong for enjoying the game but for those who don't, you shouldn't support the game at all.

I read reviews about non video game software and choose which is best without using any of them. Read enough on any one and use the best one for you and you can now suggest changes to the ones you don't use to improve them so that you might consider using them in the future. Especially true for subscription based software.

It definitely takes some practice, especially after so many years of using the RS to shoot. But if you think about it, it makes more sense to have the Shooting function on a button than on an Analog Stick. For one thing, it makes it easier to select what type of shot you want to take: if I tap the LB button, I get a weak wrist shot. If I hold it down, I get a hard wrister. If I hold down the modifier trigger and tap the LB, I get a quick shot. Do the same and hold the LB for one second, then release, I get a snap shot. Hold the LB all the way and I get a full powered slap shot.

It also works for one-timers. If I just use LB when I receive a pass, the player gathers it and takes a quick wrister on net. Use the modifier + LB and you get a one-timer slap shot.

The fun thing in NHL 2K8 is that you actually have to time your shots on reception of you'll whiff on the puck or the shot will be inacurate. They also have plenty of little animations where your player will try to gather the puck if he receives it on the wrong hand, etc.

The game is so deep even though it's a little rough around the edges. It's a shame 2K Sports scrapped the engine when they went with 2K9 (until they eventually disapeared).
  • I definitely thought that 2k8 was one of if not the best hockey games made. I also completely agree about shooting on a button. That also allows you to have far greater control over your stick and where you put the puck.
  • Fired up the old SNES NHLPA 93, still the best hockey experience ever made

    Great game, I miss it.

What are the "right settings" for online...?

Even with very low ping there can be "fat man lag" and I can say it is **** far from "pretty good" at that point...

I don't play online so I would not know what those settings are, but if you don't play offline modes than maybe the game just is not worth it. I play offline and the game is actually kind of fun. if it is as laggy as you guys say then there is no set of settings that can make it enjoyable to you.

Supposed to move forward, not back. For me i just moved on to other stuff. Its a shame, i love playing hockey but i don't enjoy this year. I was so addicted in 14 and maybe its the yearly releases or perhaps the way the game was treated in the next gen jump, ive played less and less every year. In my opinion this is a poor attempt at a hockey game that is riddled with issues that have been present since 15. I dont know what disappoints me more, nhl 18 or my rangers :( Hey, bright side, there is always next year!
  • I think they have good ideas ,just do not have the time and resources to realize it properly .Most probably due to short development they have to make lot of compromise in every decision. The game is too big to get properly developed.
  • This game has gotten better year after year, would never wanna go back and play previous gens.
