"This is a game, as you say. What is the most important part of a video game? I would think control is the most important factor. Who cares if the game looks pretty when you can't control you player, or car, or whatever you wish."
Right on!
It's all about control and responsiveness, you have these two things you have a fun competitive game. Look at NHL 09 thru 12, by far above and beyond the most fun years of this title. What was fun about these games? They were focused around control/Responsiveness (a skating engine what worked and vision control that worked). Just these two things allowed this game to play great, NHL 13 TPS was added that destroyed the skating and classic vision control was removed which limited control over your player as well.
I also didn't feel the game was intrusive back then, as it is now.

100% agree. The beginning of the downfall of this series was the implementation of the forever faulty skating mechanic in NHL 13 that persists to this day. While it's been slightly tweaked and improved in the years since 13, the overall execution and thought process behind that skating mechanic is terribly flawed.
This game series needs a total overhaul from top to bottom really. The skating, the control scheme, the menus, the game engine, you name it.
I played roughly about 6 weeks of NHL 18 (late Nov. to early Jan), which is my lowest amount BY FAR of any game in the series the past decade plus. It's simply gotten stale and is not a good product.
Skating in this game is like watching modern dance art - you look at the writhing, jerking and tumbling person and think "What the heck is wrong with that dude/dudette? Get some help, please."
I know we are talking about gameplay which is super important and all the things they have been lacking over the years. I don't need to repeat them all. But lets seriously look at how the game literally hasn't changed since 2010.
1) The celebrations, like winning the cup penalties, wins etc. The game is flat out boring, as I have literally lost all incentive to purchase the new one coming out.
2)The graphics are subpar compared to FIFA and NFL. Sure the screen shots are great, but in game it's crap. I know graphics aren't all that important, but improve them already.
3) I've asked in the past to be able to transfer progress from one game to another. I remember someone telling me that people wouldn't buy the game then... How does that make any sense? Gives people who invest their time in franchise mode, BAP, etc, to continue it with newer features etc. I know years ago, Tiger Woods golf did that, and it worked great!
Connected franchise is my biggest hope ! Enjoyed running a real Madden league for 8 + years successfully. Would like to do so with my favorite sport Now. Us true hockey fans deserve a good connected franchise mode.
I know what will be in NHL 19...NHL 15, NHL 16, NHL 17 and NHL 18. It's all the same dude. It's a DLC roster update they charge as a AAA title for $80 each year. I have no expectations this will be good. I'm not purchasing anymore copies of this series. Maybe NHL 39 will be different.

sooo if you are not buying the game anymore... why come to a board for the game to tell people? oh right its the new mindset of some gamers of "I need attention by complaining"

He is letting EA know he has grown tired of the product, and is voicing it in the appropriate place.
You are the only one who has a problem with it. Don't like a post? Just skim over it. Simple, really.

he is complaining... voicing an opinion would be explaining what his issues are... giving suggestions on what they could do
but just making a post of "Im not buying" is childish

Skating 100% needs to be fixed. There are no hard starts and stops and everybody who's ever played the game in real life know that if a puck is sitting in front of you that you wouldn't just helplessly stare at it. You'd hit the breaks and push off to grab it. The first three steps of your stride should be explosive too. The pulling back on the joystick to stop isn't good enough, it's slow motion and plodding and you'll never win a puck battle with it.
That's another thing, they don't let you battle for pucks. If someone hits you while you try to reverse in the corner you always get laid out and stay on the ice in front of a loose puck just long enough for the other team to grab it and skate away while you sit there helpless again. Not every body check on the wall annihilates you, it should pound you in to the glass but let you still fight for the possession.
Then we have loose puck pick ups. So many times your guy will skate around a loose puck like there's a bubble around it. Is it so hard to make your stick automatically sweep at it to grab it? Completely unrealistic the way it is.
Lastly, the puck physics are bad. Like, really bad. How many times have you been pushing the puck up the wall, skating straight ahead and get bumped from behind and the puck stays still so they can grab it? Last time I checked, if you push the puck forward, even taking a push from behind, the puck is going to keep sliding forward and not just magically stop. This also can relate to the zero puck possession battles, they just don't let us think or play the game the way it really is played in real life.
3. GM Connected. I "could care less" about this mode because all I play is offline but I know a lot of you have been asking for it for a long time. There could be a chance it makes it onto NHL 19
For the love of everything sacred in this world, it is "couldn’t care less", or "could not care less"!
Begs the question, "So how much less do you care? Edited all caps phrasing out
I hope this will be the last iteration of the yearly ”full new game” cycle.
As the engine updates they could remodel NHL series to a service model. This way we would see a lot of the issues resolved over time, instead of issues just carrying over to the hurried ”new game”.
Maybe they could even include a meaningful game mode with a subscription fee.

Improve Scouting
Hire actual staff (coaches, scouts... retired players can become hire able staff)
Other GM Personalities (build rep with specific GMs making deals, those GMs could be fired/hired by other teams changing the teams your rep is with)

The story like in Fifa - The Journey.
Do add in new celebrations.
The only thing I have heard so far is commentators are changing.
I used to enjoy the buzz loading up the new nhl game. Ive played since nhl 98

Ok sorry, I will change it.
