where's catfish and rainbow to tell you how great this game is and that you just suck at it? figured they would've been the first to respond

So, it's ok for you to think the game is trash, but it isn't ok for anyone to say the like it?

It's fine to say you like it. I even enjoy it at times. However, there's a difference between that and then repeatedly telling people the only issue with the game is matchmaking. And doing it in such a way that the matchmaking is somehow just a small, trivial issue while everything else is perfect.

Well, I wouldn't say everything else is perfect, but come on. Game play is the best it's been in probably over 6 years. They have added tons of customization vs any other release.

Sure, MM is a disaster, that is a given, but the rest is pretty good for a new year with a new engine. Better than 15 was anyways. And I'm totally fine with poke checking in case that is what you're getting at. Once people realize defense is about containment before just stealing the puck for constant breakaways, the better off they will be.

NHL 19 has a new engine?? Did I miss something? Or are you just talking about the new skating mechanics? I like to grade things as a whole and OPs post basically looks at the larger picture than the one or two things that people are so proud about. For the most part, it's basically a $30 carbon copy sold for $70+.

Yes, the new skating and collision engine that replaced TPS.

Not trying to attack you, but it seems you are hellbent on trashing the game regardless of what people respond to you. You are entitled to hate the game all you want, but are beginning to sound pretty biased at this point.

You do know people we're hoping for en entirely new engine, right? Frostbite. Changing the skating and hitting mechanics, isn't an engine change. It just seems like they added animations and hitting points and that's about it.

I'm not biased. I'm just one of the many people who will continue to voice their concerns. Thankfully, there are many people out there like myself (like OP), who aren't afraid to voice thier opinions and call it like it is. These are legitimate gripes. Some of them are even game breaking and you're telling me I'm biased against broken things not yet fixed in a game I paid for?

And what do you think Frostbite will do for the game? Do you realize the amount of work required, and that absolutely everything will have to be redone by switching to Frostbite?
  • The game isn't "bad", but it's not "good" either. It definitely fell short of all the hype. I heard so much about how this series is sim and authentic, but I have yet to see anything like that. We have no goal music which I feel takes away from the "authentic" part EA preaches.

The last minute of a game is in REAL time. So you technically have 4-5 minutes to play 1 minute...kind of eliminates the urgency from the game and creates frustration with all the last minute comeback goals...which happen because they aren't last minute, they are last 5 minutes.

Playing a game the other day, the commentators said Washington was lucky to be in the game especially because they were behind on the stats, too. What? Washington was out shooting me, ahead of me in time on attack, same power plays, and winning by a goal. How these things get by EA year after year after year I don't understand.

I think without the competition, EA has become complacent with this series. Why improve it when there is no competition to worry about? You can't paint an old car and call it new.

    Not really.

Remember in NHL 14, 15, and Legacy? Most people didn't want to play with human goalies as the AI was much better. Well next gen, guess what? People starting catching on and all of a sudden the trend is to play with human goalies because it is easier to score.

Make garbage AI and all of a sudden everyone is deking them out for easy access to the net.

Make the AI goalie even dumber and people will want to play with AI goalies because people want to score. They want points. Same applies for all the other positions.

There are some I agree who would rather play with AI as they are generally better than a good portion of the human players. Point is, people want to dangle and snipe. I personally hate the AI, but what can you do. They are an inevitable part of the game.

New engine doesn't = new game.

Ps5 = new engine with everything ported to the new engine = same game better graphics.

You still haven't answered what you think Frostbite will bring to the game.

I'm on mobile. I can't do everything for you. :) FIFA and Madden switched to Frostbite for their games this year. Just check and see what changed with those implementations.

I actually looked this up because I thought all frostbite did was upgrade the graphics. One of the first articles that popped up was this...

    https://www.usgamer.net/articles/the-frostbite-engine-nearly-tanked-mass-effect-andromeda

So I read on little more thinking that maybe this was a fluke and I'll find a better article about it. I then clicked on one with FIFA 19 and find the quote:

"FIFA 19 will once again use the Frostbite Engine – despite it coming under fire from fans who claim its error prone"

That was from this site if I need to be citing my research :p

    https://www.dreamteamfc.com/c/gaming/374659/fifa-19-release-date-trailer-ultimate-team-cover-star/

I also read that many fans were complaining there was input delay issues because of Frostbite, but I don't know if that was truly the cause or not. If it is, the community would be in uproar as NHL has had many delay issues in the past.

Anyways, after doing the brief research that I have done, I feel like the reviews are definitely mixed. Some games it works well for, and some not so much. So it sounds like the engine may not be the fix everyone is hoping for.
  • I love seeing all the new glitches new iterations of Madden brings.

Loved the post edit. :) Guess saying that Madden with the new engine is just as glitchy as NHL didn't fit your narrative. 10/10 for your stealth edit, sir.

Anyway. Not saying a new engine is a whole new game or their won't be glitches, but do a little self research on how games use updated engines to improve on the old.
  • EA NHL team can be quoted saying they reviewed the potential benefits and problems with moving NHL to frostbite by looking at other EA titles that are currently on Frostbite.

They decided it wasn’t reallt worth it. And knowing what I have read from things life FIFA boards/subs I’m inclined to believe them. Frostbite wouldn’t have been a be all end all solution.

What was my original post? That Madden launches as broke as NHL? It does. Not matchmaking wise but Madden always has the craziest glitches like teleporting, limbs disappearing , touchebacks for TDs etc

Yup. Gotta do your own research on the good and bad. I've heard things on both sides of the fence. At this point, anything coded from the ground up while finally getting rid of the things that are regurgitated year after year would be nice.
