Fake Wrist Shot?
I mentioned this in another thread after I discovered what has been occurring, but many times when I swing the puck to my defender, I try to throw a quick wrister on net, but the player instead does a "fake shot".
I put this in quotes as they only reason I discovered what is happening is by turning on the on ice trainer. (It simply says fake shot) It looks like a fake wrist shot and I can't recreate it unless it's on accident.
Has anyone else encountered this and/or can tell me how I am making this fake shot happen? I'm assuming this is needed to NHL 19 as I've never encountered this in past iterations and it only seems to occur when I'm trying to shoot the puck quickly.
Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

Depending on the puck carriers relative angle to the net, he either does the traditional leg kick fake shot or the one you are possibly talking about that is more of a slide and fake.
What do you mean by "out of range"? I'm reading it as your saying I am pushing RS too soon, which isn't the case. I'm just trying to take a simple wrist shot from the point. Meaning when I pass the puck to the point, I line myself up and just do a simple flick up on RS.
The question I would like answered is how do we perform this shot? I've looked at the control manual and I can't seem to find it. Am I just not seeing it?
Ah ok, I knew of the leg kick fake, but I didn't realize there was a "slide and fake". I have given up way too many breakaways because of this. I guess I'm just too aggressive with my thumbs.
Was this slide and fake in NHL 18? I never had an issue until this year's version. I really wish I had the option to turn this feature off.
I have a controller for NHL and another for any other game I play. I walls seem to break my sticks because of how hard I use them. That being said, I tried using 3 separate controllers now, on ebeing brand new, and I am still having trouble. This doesn't happen often, but when it does, the results have not been in my favor.
I actually popped NHL 18 back in and played a few games, which is just unbearable by the way, and I can not recreate it. I switch back to 19, and it happened to me in my first game.
It only occurs on that quick point shot. I don't notice that I am clicking in the joystick, but that seems like the only logical reason this is occurring.
I'll keep troubleshooting to see, but this "fake shot" animation has been killing me. Is this even supposed to freeze the defense or just the goalie? I probably do this on average 2-3 times a game and my player just stops and let's the opposing team take it off his stick every time by just skating into him. Of all things, this is what frustrated me the most about this game.
After hearing more, it may not be the fake shot.
Have you looked in replay to see how close you are to the edge of the top of the right stick section that triggers a shot? Wondering if you are just in fact missing it and it’s blending quickly into a deke node and back or something
+-10 degrees off straight up on your right stick initiates a shot, I figured you just didn't flick directly up but after reading more it seems to me that either the angle you're trying to shoot at, or trying to shoot too fast after receiving the puck (which causes a weird animation where you just hold it) is what's messing you up.
This has happened to me multiple times and it can be annoying. I can't say the EXACT cause of it but how you're receiving a pass/loose puck needs looking into.
I've had this happen to me too, and it was prevalent in 18 as well. I don't click R3 in, but it's as if i'm cancelling the shot at the exact same time I'm trying to take it. It has something to do with how you receive a pass but I don't know how to replicate it 100% of the time. You can hold right stick in the green shoot zone for as long as you want but it won't shoot until you basically reset R3's position and this gets you either poked easily or absolutely smashed by the opposing team.
I'm a left-handed shot and it messes me up when i come flying down from the right for a one timer or if I decide to do a little greasy dangle first. My guy basically holds it sooo far diagonally up and left, and the stick looks like i''m trying to squish the puck to the ice - I will try to record it next time it happens
According to the on ice tracker, it does say "fake shot" on screen when it occurs. But I'll try and get a video of it tonight and upload it.
I don't think this is the issue because I am catching the puck then shooting it. I'm not trying to flick it before the puck gets there. I think it's what @NHLDev is saying. I just don't understand why I can't replicate it in NHL 18 when I seem to make it happen a ton in NHL 19.
I don't feel like I press in RS, but I really am heavy on the sticks, so I can see this being the issue.
I have done this about 3 dozen times and I can't replicate what is occurring in games. I can get the "slide and fake" animation that you mentioned, but only when I am breaking towards the goalie. I can't seem to recreate the animation when I pass it to the defenseman and attempt a quick wrister.
I won't be able to try it tonight, but I'll try streaming some of my games this week to see if I can get capture what's happening. Maybe I'm just more concious of what I am doing now. Either way, I'm even more frustrated now haha.
