What's the goalie doing here?

By no means was great defense played here, but for crying out loud what is the goalie doing? What does he think the player with the puck is going to do that requires him to come so far off the post and essentially give a free goal on what should be a low-danger play.

Thanks for posting. We do have logic around how a goalie considers the future threat based on puck carrier movement and consider what your future capabilities are when backskating, on your backhand, etc. and this is definitely at the extreme end. He doesn't need to really come off the post at all at this angle and should just lessen his lean to the near post without the push.

I've seen high level players (like RealMiviens) actually come out from behind the net backskating twitch to the far side of the net, the goalie moves and then backhand it short side. Looks very much like this goal does. It's his money move when he needs a goal to put pressure on his opponent.

It's very effective, but gotta admit the AI goalie bites too hard on that move and it looks ridiculous.

Normally the goalies are reacting to the puck and not to the player or? In this clip, its look like the goalie only reacting to the player, and not to the puck.
