Not thrilled with the layout/fonts this year. I found last year’s too small, but this is just too ‘slick,’ rather than informational. And that ‘shooting star’ gleam effect is super annoying.
Player Editing: We should be able to edit CPU-created players in Franchise Mode. Too often they have these goofy hairdos or are 19 and have grey hair (I know, Drew Miller, but percentages) and you can wind up with three draft prospects that look identical…but are from different countries? And sometimes the names don’t really match-up. I’d like to be able to edit everything, like you can with a user-created player. Also, more goalie mask options and/or the ability to apply team colors to the generic templates, like you can with pads et al.
The Stanley Cup celebration was awesomely overhauled for the last two versions, but the handoff is so random as to seem pointless (watching Claude Giroux snub Wayne Simmonds to hand the Cup to…Scott Laughton? Thrilling). How about a setting in Edit Lines where you can set the handoff order, like you can with Shootout, or even just an edit so that the C hands to the A, him to the other A, and then the starting G?
Something they scrapped that I desperately want back, Career totals. I love that they announce, in game, someone netting their 400th goal, but I’d love to be able to see a running total (like they used to have) so I can actually see I have a player at 399 goals and play that milestone game.
In the seasonal stats they show now as Career Stats, I’d like to see the team abbreviation next to the season like they have in Madden, and in real stats online.
Ability to edit lines on all teams. Owner Mode used to have this, so you could put 90-rated players on Superlines regardless of their default position, but it’s gone now and a 92 C can be stuck with an 84 RW for years simply because he’s the highest rated RW in the lineup (I know, just change their position, but then you have to wait to see if the Auto Line Change reassigns in the right order etc). All I want is total control, is that so much to ask?
Ability to decide awards. Too often, in Franchise mode, if you’re playing your best players to pad stats, you’ll win the Ross or Norris every year, even though another player would be the obvious choice (performing above and beyond with little or no help: Connor McDavid). It would be great to decide winners so that the highest scoring defenseman doesn’t win the Norris every year, or the Hart going hand in hand with the Art Ross more often than not.
Choose retirements/unretire. I play Franchise Mode with Auto Save off so I can decide injury length (I won’t accept anything longer than three weeks because that’s so awesome when it happens in real life) and also who I accept retiring. I’ve had the game try and retire 26 year old minor leaguers who had no injury history (something Madden actually takes into consideration), and I’ve had the game drop 38 year old veterans several overall rating points towards the end of the season, only to NOT retire them, when (in the storyline) it would have been ideal for them to hang them up. It would be great to be able to select players for retirement, or deselect them from the proposed list shown on View Retired Players.
It would also be fun to elect retiring players to the HHOF, and Retire Jersey numbers for your team with Franchise Mode. Pipe dreams, I know, but still…this is a wishlist. And while we’re at it, a banner raising ceremony at the start of the season following a Cup win?
Between plays, I’d like to see more of the arena/bench. Progress has been made, but wouldn’t it be great to see them coming out of the locker room, or down the hallway and take the ice?
And while it’s great that they finally tweaked the post-goal celebration, so that guys aren’t skating by with their arms out and getting snubbed, STOP with the goofy fans in the stands! Cutting away from someone scoring their 50th goal to show some painted up fan wearing a hard hat doing the pterodactyl? Enough.
It would also be fun to lock a player, like in Be a Pro. I create myself in Franchise Mode, and it would be fun to play a game just as one player, but still have all the control of a GM/Coach after the game.
A lot of attention was spent on overhauling the draft/scouting process this year, but I still don’t get why we can’t just see players with the ratings you see when you go into Rosters or Edit Player. I’d like to look at the D and see 62, Medium Top 4, Two-Way D, not question marks or three guys Medium Top 4 and not be able to tell who has the edge other than their draft ranking projection.
Player progression can take forever, unless you give your highest potential players all the ice time in the world, but in doing so, you’d have to demote an 86 for a 78 Medium Elite when he’s yet to warrant it. Why not be able to Spend XP on individual player boosts like Madden? Up an aging veteran (the ones this game tends to drop down the rabbit hole based on their age rather than how well you have them playing in their sunset years) or fast track an Elite through the AHL.
Franchise (Owner) Mode used to have a screen that displayed team seasons, so you could see your history: 103 Points, Third Round; 98 Points, Lost Final; etc. I’d like to see that back.
And with all the things you can turn off at the start of Franchise Mode (Morale, CAP), why can’t we turn off that whole “You can’t have an 18 year old in the minors, he has to be sent back to the CHL” edit? I want to develop these kids firsthand, not have them ‘disappear’ to the CHL or Europe for another year or two until I’m allowed to have them.
And I’d love to be able to drop/add players mid-season. You used to be able to, like a decade ago before the CAP got programmed in, but it would be fun to look at your roster on July 1 and dump 11 players in favor of who’s available in FA, especially in Expansion Mode.
Lastly, a lot has been made of the seemingly ungrammatical in-game commentary programmed for Doc and Edzo. I get it, but Doc’s the GOAT, so I endure it. But what about the nonsensical League News message board? “If you guessed that Lundqvist got a shutout? Then you guessed it right!” Smh.
Why play a gm simulation mode if you take away all the simulation. If you get to control all the aspects it’s pretty lame. I def don’t want it to be easy mode. Why would you be able to edit another teams line? If it does bug you then change their position.
It’s silly to alter the way the nhl works in real life so you can boost your rookies. An 18 year old can not play in the ahl if he comes from a North American League. You should just play a note pad version and just make it turn out exactly as you seem to want. Life and hockey is full of the unexpected. Not every #1 pick will make the nhl and some 7th rounders will be some the best the nhl has seen. There will always be a Tim Thomas and panarin were rookies at like 28. Get off your god complex and learn to go with “life” of the game. It sucks that sometimes your rookies don’t pan out but look at NY. They can’t save state signing JT
There are things that should be allowed to be Vetoed by the user - such as some trades (like real life trades), goals, but I do see it as a way of cheating. But you'd be cheating yourself... so who would care?
The main things I'd like the followings in franchise
[*] Ability to retire jerseys and have an in-game ceremony for it
[*] Ability to propose player(s) to other team in order for them to come with a proposal, and the same way around, ask for a player and let the CPU tell you want it wants.
[*] Ability to set specific pieces and prices for players on the trade block. Say you assign E. Karlsonn, then I should be able to set the 1st pick, NHL player (OVR or Potential), Prospect (OVR or Potential).
[*] Winter Classic during the season
[*] CPU salary dump trades.
[*] change the Trade with a POsitive/NEgative value instead of a low-high. Some players do have a negative value to their contract/production ratio.
[*] Allow creation of players during the Franchise, as so we can add future draftees and overseas players coming in.
[*] Creation of third jersey
Wishlist should not be for 20 ! Wishlist should be for a free update.
I speak as Franchise player only for this mode. Other may have other wishes and whats for them important.
All Real player faces 90-95% have not, better stats with youth stats by Team names ( not NHL and AHL named ) including trades and for whom be traded, Stanley Cup Rings and Honors, Hot and cold streaks in player profiles, Missing Jerseys, New Goalie masks or creator app, Roster import and sharing, To open past games in Calender for reviewing past games stats details. The possibility to play with all Teams during one career not only with one ( in past they had ). More leagues like NCAA and USHL and to play in all leagues. Negotiation button .... if you interested in a player you ask that Team what they want from your Team. This could go three times way there and back before finalizing the Trade. Franchise mode is very far from perfect.
By the way tried today by a friend ! No reason to Hype this game.
sahioX - the game is already easy enough and have easy work around for a lot of this. Also because everything takes time to program so I don’t want them wasting time on ways to break the game.
Pretty much all your points I do love. I have had dreams of the trade ones:
You see a team has interest in a player, you offer that team the player and then they give you a proposal. Even better if you can request prospect and a pick or something like that.
I’d love to see sock templates in create a team that actually match the new adidas templates.
I’d love for edit player to be put back into season mode...this being removed has to be one of the most annoying things about 19. Why was this removed?
I’d like to see the “dump-in goal” where the CPU takes a slapshot off the corner boards which goes right to the pipe where your goalie will incorrectly use the VH to let the puck deflect or hos skate and in removed from the game. This is a great new feature that’s definitely not immersion-breaking!
I’d like to see actual power play strategies added into the game (box + 1, 1-3-1) where your CPU teammates actually support the puck and know how to run a power play.
I’d love to see goalies be made more realistically good and bad. The hover-effect they have when on their knees is very unrealistic and it makes you feel like you can never truly catch them on quick one-touch passes as they are super-human/air hockey puck-like when moving on the ice.
Roster sharing would be great as well, but I don’t think this game will ever be “great” it will only be “good” at best. I’ll be skipping 20 but hopefully 21 will have at least a few of these things...
Connected Franchise for hockey would be nice, fans and players on console want this and have for such a long time since it was taking away by EA. EA always has an excused for saying it wasn't popular, but like me any many others it's extreme crap.
My wish list would center around Be a GM. Basically, the more realism that can be added, the better. I would like to see more "real life" components than hokey-who-gives-a-filp tasks.
So far in '19 there are some things that are getting on my nerves, but the I'm really enjoying the gameplay... I mean really. However, as I'm playing Play Now games waiting for rosters, I'm getting tired of the player faces. It's been an issue that hasn't been addressed for way too long. I mean, it's ironic (I think), I finally like playing the game, but I'm so burnt out from the lack of immersion I might not make it to starting a season. A lot of these generic faces are carried over from last gen.
I know scanning all the players is not going to be possible, so I would really like to see some sort of system that would allow both EA and the offline user to tackle this issue. If EA isn't going to put the resources towards it, then put some if it in our hands.
All of this is why the game play suffers. Having 26 different modes means they can put very little resources into every mode just to have some new stuff. This game is trying to do everything and anything hockey related and that is a big issue in itself. People are essentially asking for all the details that would go into a Grand Theft Auto game, but with 5% of the resources that Rockstar has. Just doesn't make sense.
The game should have a career mode, and the online modes. That's it. Even then, this feels like a stretch to get everything done correctly and finally fix issues that are years in the making.
Why play a gm simulation mode if you take away all the simulation. If you get to control all the aspects it’s pretty lame. I def don’t want it to be easy mode. Why would you be able to edit another teams line? If it does bug you then change their position.

One example of why you should be able to change another team's lineup, I forget which year but the team ai was screwed up and you had superstars all over the place being stashed on AHL teams.
Also some guys with a wish list like the OP actually want to change things to make it more difficult or realistic, not easier.
Skate with the cup allready same celebration is disgraceful. It’s core game is right there the gameplay has Improved dramatically. Lighten the load get rid of the modes keep us offliners happy there are many keep online and HUT even though I don’t support it it is the cash cow and I undertand money heck I pay bills. Get Ray between the benches just like real Doc and Eddy. Get NBC and CBC broadcast style with another duo to pick from. I understand this is probably unrealistic but could be done if they drop half the modes. And for all that is holy classic teams like in the 2k series ala 2k12 black and white camera 70’ and 80’s. Can you imagine playing as Rocket Richard Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky the broad street bullies. It can be done just think how groundbreaking this would be. Pipe dream maybe but I can hope
I’d just like penalties to not completely define online play.(6v6)
..and stick behavior, on both sides of the puck. From the way pressing A = slash with the rage of a thousand suns to this whole concept of not being able to stick handle and skate at the same time. The stick handling without moving the feet irks the ever loving out of me. I can literally hear several coaches screaming in my head usually something to the effect of..if your too tired to be moving your feet crossing the blue line maybe we need to put the pucks away and just run power skating drills the rest of practice.
....same deal when I totally get wiped out by what should be trivial contact with someone stick. Again with its hockey not soccer..
All Comments pertain to 6v6 drop in unless otherwise stated..

The powerplay one would be huge. They've needed this for years.
Also the goaltending one is very important. About 1 out of every 4 games I play offline there is a really bad goal because the goalies have no logic on the posts, or the stick is improperly positioned or for some reason the skates and the pad aren't flush against the post. Goaltending needs an overhaul from real goaltenders.
I wish I could record Easier my highlights , we could record a sequence with the game nhl20 , even have a personnal library with our real highlights. And finally we could share to friends our sick goal or hit or whatever. All that integrate in the game, psn share is complicate for that..
I know 2K games weren't up to standards as far as game play but just go watch a YouTube video of a powerplay from a 2k game.
You could actually setup. You could cycle. Players knew how to switch off and play umbrella. You had time to create. In every single EA game it's always been the shorthanded team who seemed to have the advantage. The puck controlling team always was rushed. I can't remember which year, maybe it was 16, where it was more beneficial to be short handed than to have a power play. Some things EA does is just so backwards.
most the things i would like to see are based on licensing like the actual sweaters for the national teams instead of just the nation's flag as a crest and to have the non-NHL arenas in HUT. i'd love to have an international ice surface or a CHL arena as my home arena in HUT.
The power play is just brutal in this game. The AI is way too aggressive when killing which results in you needing to make quick passes which isn’t bad especially if you’re skilled. The problem is, the AI also mirrors your LS so they know where you’re going to touch pass it to so they have instant pressure on your outlet pass. Once that pass is received, you have no time or space to find the next guy because your AI are so stationary and interactive when on the PP, that it’s literaly impossible to get them the puck. They have no awareness or recognition of open space.
Power plays in real life involve creating 2-on-1s to be exploited. When the CPU takes an aggressive run and you pass the puck off looking for a give-n-go, your AI (the guy you just used to pass) will simply stand still and not take advantage of the over-aggressive PK’er.
Now, some of my issue stems from pass interceptions cranked to 100/100, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of movement or spatial awareness. I honestly wouldn’t mind if this couldn’t be dynamically fixed as long as we were given the option to create-a-play. At least when creating my play I could add-in some sort of linear movement progression with the PP. As of now, the PP is lucky to hit offline as I just can’t run it at al realistically.
